Right now my GST has 140k miles on it. what are the chances of me getting CW? i dont wanna invest money in it then have the 7 bolt walk on me. i also dont wanna install a 6 bolt unless i have to. what mods can i do to prevent crankwalk? if any body has successfully built a 7 bolt please post a good set up for me. i have a 400 HP goal. if your motor has CW then post at what mileage.

It will probably spin a bearing before it walks. I was in the same boat as you, then mine spun a bearing.

7 bolts are known crank walkers. 6 bolters are known NOT to...

Is there a way to prevent it? sure keep to a lower HP cap. I am not sure where the cap is but the mid 300's ring a bell. Will it walk at that? maybe, but the higher you go the more likely it becomes.

As far as a bolt in part to prevent it? all snake oil myths. Inserts this, main caps that... they still walk.

Crankwalk is NOT over-rated if you have $3,000.00 or more in your bankaccount at all times. If you do not have $3,000.00 in your account, crankwalk is a possibility your gonna have to get used to. 7 Bolt Crankshafts are NOT Nitride Hardened as deeply as 6 Bolt cranks, (.010" 7 bolt vs. .030" 6 bolt) so its only a matter of time till a 7 bolt owner heats up the thrust journal enough to let it rotate and the short block is TRASH.

Dude its gonna happen sooner or later. www.overbore.com has the solution to 7 bolt Crankwalk, and will stand behind their warranty. Other companies have QUIT building 7 bolts altogether.

My car CW'd at 109K

how did they solve it? all they do is give suggestions on what to do to prevent it.

mine walked at 56K. i couldn't find a 6-bolt in good condition at the time, so i had my 7-bolt built. the whole build came close to $2,500. that's including parts and labor and machining. my bottom end now has eagle rods h beams, and arias pistons w/ .030 overbore, arp hardware, cometic metal HG, and a crank that's micro polished. if there was a good condition 6-bolt at the time when mine walked, i would've opted for that. eventhough my motor is somewhat built, i still think it'll walk again. oh well, if it happens again i'll look around for a 6-bolt and build that from the bottom up.

yeah no kidding shut the hell up with crankwalk.

its more rare than people think, and its the only negative people can think of when it comes to DSM's. i think most misinterpret other causes for crankwalk and immediately step on the Cwalk bandwagon, when there are more than likely other things that share the same symptoms.

and ####, if you cwalk, that just means its time to build yourself a nice 6bolt.

and i agree, if you own a dsm, you should have a "if shit happens" fund tucked away somewhere, so if shit happens, youre covered.
