How to make shifting easier

If your like me, you will benifit from this article. My 91 laser rs shifted like crap before today. It was hard to get into gear and sometimes resulted in stalling. Well, i removed the rubber washers from the base of the shifter and replaced them with metal 1/10 thick washers. How to do this...
1. Remove the shift knob and center console by popping of the plastic front piece and remove the three screws.

2. Disconnect the lighter from the console.
3. Ethier leave the plactic one-piece from inside the console and make life much easier or do not and make it harder.

4. Remove the 4 bolts from the base of the shifter, it is a 12mm bolt, to get to two of the bolts, you must remove the left shift linkage.

5. Remove the rubber pieces by simply pushing them out. Then burn them and throw the remains away. LOL

6. Take a nice size washer (1/10 inch thick by half dollar size wide, what i used) on either side of the base and and bolt it down nice and snug.

7. Replace the center console inside piece if necessary and the outer center console. Plug in your lighter piece and replace the plastic overlay between dash and console. Finally, replace your shift knob.

8. Reap the rewards of a smoother yet louder shift.
Note: While your console is off, it is recommended that you grease your shift cables.

Sorry for no pics, my camera is broken. It wasnt to hard, takes a good 2 hours and a drink.

****EDIT***

I did the mod and had 2 helpful pics in my opinion on the size of washer. Instead of half dollar sized washer, I would recommend a quarter sized. And also recommend 2 stacked on top of each other per side of shifter plate.
