I just installed and finished breaking in a South bend DXD series clutch. It is a six puck dual friction disc, kevlar on the one side, a ceramic/metallic surface on the other. It uses a heavier than stock pressure plate but not too heavy. I'd say similar to an act 2100. I am using it with a fidanza aluminum flywheel. The clutch install went smoothly as expected, tranny actually hit the spline on my first try and another shove and it was lined up perfectly on the engine. First time I pushed the clutch in I was amazed at how light the pedal was. However it was very firm throughout the throw. I broke it in for approx 200 miles (puck clutch doesnt need as long as an organic disc). After driving on it for a while (and fixing about 15 different boost leaks i've found) I absolutely love the clutch. It engages quickly as would be expected with a puck disc, however it is very slippable and smooth. I haven't had any problems with chatter whatsoever, and so far it is holding the power my car is making quite well(i've ran a best of 12.000 @ 115.23). The deal that I got on this clutch makes it all worthwhile, $320 or so from horsepowerfreaks.com. Overall very impressed so far with it, I would reccomend it.

I've been considering the DXD myself. You say it is very "slippable"? How does it get once it starts heating up? Does it become more grabby? How much more difficult is it to launch from a dead stop with this clutch compared to a full face disk?

Thanks,
Dustin :talon:

It's slippable all the time, even when hot its not bad. It is pretty easy to launch, you just have to be a little more careful about the engagement point of it and not to completely drop the clutch like you can do with a full face disc. I haven't launched it at the track yet so I can't tell you for sure what launching it is like. I have launched it on the street a few times, but every time has just ended up with a whole lot of tire spin.
