Hey everyone... I have a question for anyone that might be able to answer this... ok here it goes.. my check engine light came on so i took it to my friends shop to hook it up to the snap-on machine.. it said i blew 2 codes.. a misfire and something with the MAS.. so he cleared it out and the check engine light didnt come back on.. in the mean time i needed to get my car inspected but i needed to wait atleast 2 weeks so the odb2 would reset everything and everything that the odb2 analyzes would be "ready." so i waited even longer say about a month then i brought it to good ole' exxon to get my sticker and everything goes well except for the guy comes to me and said "you fail" i was amazed.. the test said that i failed but it didnt show why i failed it was a complete mystery.. but it did say that half of tests werent "ready" they were "unready".. so maybe i needed some more time for the odb2 to reset everything.. 1 month later i go back and the same thing happens.. i was thinking maybe the SAFC was stopping the odb2 from reseting everything.. but who knows.. if anyone knows a solution to my problem it would be awesome.. i dont know wut to do.. help?!

The car has to meet certain parameters before ODBII is run, that is why technicians aren't supposed to clear codes. Japenese cars don't run tests as often as Domestics do, they build their emissions systems in such a way that will just put them over the minimum to be sold in the US. So if it is harder to get an OBDII test to run(which it is on most Japanese cars) then it's going to be harder and take longer to get all the OBDII monitors passed.

I don't know how the Mitsubishi diagnostic box works but the chrysler's DRBIII actually lists the parameters that each monitor must meet to run, so you could potentially "force" the monitors to run by meeting the minimum requirements. But again, I don't know if Mitsubishi scan tool can do this.

All I am saying with all that babble, is don't clear codes, because who knows how long it will take before the monitors have successfully run.

if its like mine, they will never be set to ready.

thats a "known" problem with the mistu ecu's from many years. after key off they reset so unless you drive your car for a month or so without turning it off, and then make the smog guys not turn it off, some cars will always show not ready for some of the checks...

so..... yeah

my solution was to go right to the smog referee (in california no less) and he just overrode that part after he manually checked the egr.

that was all i had to do to pass.

plus they charge like...20 bucks instead of 60

so basically my ecu can be shot?!?!

i think i might just go to the mistu dealer and see wut they can do.. im hopless with this

just go to the smog referee.

its not that the ecu is shot...its that many of them out there are "programmed" to be dumb.

there is supposedly some reflash to be done if you ask some people, but when i talked to the dealer, they said they wanted 185 bucks to look at it. so i said f-that and went the referee.

the ref didn't need any paperwork on the car at all (except the paper form the smog place that said i failed.)

20 minutes.....20 bucks...i was done, dumb ecu and all.

thanks that link helped me out a lot...

i was also thinking if i should just buy a o2 sensor simulator and if it would help me out greatly with this whole ecu garbage.. and were can i get one for my application.. i couldnt find any for my car at all..

also.. should i just unplug the battery, then put the cat back on then drive it around aimlessley for a little bit so the monitors reset.. or should i just install the o2 simulator then disconnect the battery... so MANY options but dont know where to start..
