Has anyone here installed the MSD DIS-2? if yeah did u need the tac adapter? and how hard was it to install? and where did u mount it? (maybe a pic to help?) thx for any help u guy can give.

That pretty well sums it up. The wiring instructions are in the box. I had to use the tach adapter on my car as well. I mounted mine vertically infront of the battery though with a small bracket i made. That allowed the switches to be up so I could change them and made it fit into a tight spot. Not sure if thats possible on the N/T but it saved me a lot of room.

when installing msd dis 2 in a dsm with a afc or afc2 installed, the afc is not going to work because the dis is going to intercepted the signal from the power transistor. So we fixed that problem by running a wire from msd/power transistor harness to the rpm signal on afc. Now they both work together great.

wait a second....repeat that, i have a afc II in my car (about to go install) and i am still tryin to see if i can tune the afc to two settings (1 for nitrous 1 when im not using nitrous...does anyone kno??? LOL) but i am going to bump up to a 75 wet eventually and i cam across this post becuase i want to get a dis so i can retard the igntion by 4.....why wouldnt it work?

I wanted to know does the MSD Dis 2 replaces the coil pack transistor? They black thing that plugs into the coil pack behind the motor?

It doesn't replace anything, it's an additional ignition amplifier. Your coil pack and ignitor are still parts of your ignition system. If you remove them your car will not run.

My MSD didn't have anything to do with my AFC. I think you may be talking about the tach wire, I still run it from the computer and used an MSD Tach Adapter. It's the piece your supposed to use so you don't have to hack into the igniter and do the white wire mod thing.

Jim said before that you dont need to retard, retard :p

yea you will be able to have 2 settings, but it will be difficult to tune since you will have to be spraying while you tune, which means your moving...

would this unit be good for a turbo+N2O setup?or would i have to go with the DIS-4?and with this, say i'm changing from 15 to 25 psi, would i have to adjust the unit manualy or would it do it automaticly?if this unit wont will the DIS-4 do it automaticly? and how hard is it to tune?

for placement issues i put my tach adapter in the glove box, and mounted the dis 2 box underneath the glove box. It works perfect and is very well hidden.

Ok, I have read all the threads on msd DIS II. On my set up I installed the extrememotorsports igniton coil packs. It replaced the power transister and the ignitor. (i had to hack the power transister wiring) and it works fine!(look in my gallery)! I am about to install my msd dis II and all I need to do is attach the corresponding wires and tach wire. I also am running an afc II. Will the msd dis II work with or against my afc II?

ya dont need a tach adaptor on a 1g I have found out....ya cut the white wire comming out of the transistor pack harness in the middle and you hook that up to the tach signal wire comming out of the MSD DIS 2.....the white wire comming out of the harness is the one going to your tach guage, although thats for 91-94 1g's...for a 90 you do have to use a tach adapter to make it work although.

I think the change was made from the 4 pin ignition to the 3pin ignition in MID 91 because some of the 91 gus have to have the adaptor and some of them dont.

In mid 91 was when the tach signal was taken off of the coil pack and put into the ignighter pack.

I know its an old thread, but a mount location ? was asked and he was refered to this thread. Heres my location. It mounts very nicely there.

What would be the harm in splicing into the white wire of the ignitor? Saves $60. I don't have the box yet but will on the 9th. Read instructions on Prostreetonline and it mentioned the white wire splice allowing the tach to work. Thanks, Mark

We already covered this in email, however I will also answer it here for those searching or reading this.

You need the tach adapter on a 2G the white wire mod will not work. A 1G is perfectly fine with the white wire mod.

If you do not use a tach adaptor on a 2G the tach will work for about 2 mins then it will die and not work anymore until you restart the car next time then it will work for 2 mins again. Basically you need the tach adaptor. it's not hard to install just order it with your box.

Hello. I know this thread is as old as dirt. But I have been looking for instructions to install this thing. I have a 97 talon. So one else started my wiring. I am confused at what happens to that little blue plug. Smh. Could you forward me to information on full installation? Or anyone else that can help. Thanks in advance.
