if you see smoke you waited too long...j/k
i used to shift my car right at redline, 7000rpm's
never had a problem til the clutch went....then the tranny....then the motor.....and so on and so forth
just shift it at 5k

I shift at 6500. No problems yet.... had to change the clutch, but of course, the stock clutch has to go anyway.
