Did it sound weird or act weird before it went? I don't even have 100 miles on mine and my drivetrain is making a lot of funny noises and I can smell my clutch burning without even driving it hard. If it is that clutch they can shove it up their assess and give my 400 back.

S/B clutches are made by competition clutch. My first C/C did that at 1k miles, my 2nd did that at 200 miles. C/C waranty them both. I told them to send me a disc without springs. The clutch feels the same as a sprung clutch, no real chatter issues. So your not the only one.

Springs cames out and chewed my aluminum flywheel.

DAMN, is there no reliable alternative to an ACT clutch?

I'm hoping to have better luck w/ my SPEC stage 2. After all the recommendations and user input, it seems to be a wise choice.

Any word from SBR as far as replacement?

i am calling SBR today and im gonna have a lil talk with them to see what we can do. I really wanted to get the car fixed this weekend, but if they say they will replace it for free, then awsome! But i have a feeling they are gonna tell me "intsalation error," like ACT. If thats the case, then im driving down to AMS today and getting a ACT disc and putting it in, and selling the car... Looking at some Evos this weekend!

I'm sure a lot of people in the DSM community will be watching this thread to see how SBR handles this issue. They should replace it. If they don't I'll be surprised.

I know RRE sells there version of the clutch, which is basically the same as that SBR clutch but the disc is organic. RRE is also known to have better warranty and customer service.

Let us know what SBR says about this.

To answer a question before, no there were no signs of it failing. The TOB has been a little squeaky (NOT a mitsu TOB, its a comp clutch/sbr TOB. They did not send me the mitsu one in my kit) .. But i was just driving and then all of a sudden I'm at a stop light and put it in first to go, and it made a grinding sound.... then i shifted into 2nd and it grinded bad, then i could not get it in 3rd. Stop the car, try to get it in first with it running, NO dice! SO i gotta get home, so i shut the car off, put it in first, clutch in, got the gas on the floor, and cranked her over. Lurched a few times before it caught, then i just drove home in first gear.

As for calling SBR, i think they are closed today for the holiday....No one answered the phone the 100 times i tried calling. So for that we will have to wait till Tuesday and see what they say then.

RPS Clutch from HorsepowerFreaks. Works great. Little pricey but well worth it.

This is not a thread to discuss other clutches. This thread is to discuss the SBR 3500/Comp Clutches ONLY!!

RPS is a good alternative.

I believe he was asking a questions. And I felt I had the position to offer my suggestions. Not knocking any product just giving an opinion from my own experiences. Is there a problem Fattie92?

Actually somebody asked a brief question of alternatives. It's not like the thread went off topic for 4 pages or anything. CHILL OUT Fattie :nono:

Thanks for your informing post bytheway. That is really odd because RPS specially made a clutch package for a friend of mine with a turbo Tiburon. His clutch was one in the nation from RPS. I cannot believe they would just throw away such a good product. I wonder if we can start a petition to bring the Max street disk back.

I apologize if i hurt anyones feelings... I just do not want this to get off topic and closed before my problem is resolved.

As for clutch alternatives, i did a little research a while back and had this thread ....ACT clutch alternatives .... There are all of the differant manufactures of clutches that i could find. I'm sure i missed a few though. Hope that helps you out.

I decided on the SBR clutch obviously. They have a good reputation with DSM's and said they have one in there 400hp shop car with no problems. But now, I'm in the same situation.... what should i put back in there?? I think ill just get another SBR disk (if offered at a discount,) or a ACT disk.

Just for all of the people that are thinking it was installer error due to dowel pins... well here is a pic of the pins right after i pulled the tranny.

Comp replaced my disc only when it first happened and I wanted the same clutch. That one lasted 200 miles. When I asked for the springless clutch I recieved a whole new clutch package. I had to send them my clutch first though. It fits nicely in the $8 flat rate box at the post office if you need to send yours out. That will save you at least a 20 spot on shipping.

Did you buy a SBR clutch or a Comp clutch? I am assuming you got a clutch direct from Comp? I don't know what SBR will do since i got it from them, and not straight from Comp themselves.

Sorry for that last remark, it wasn't seriously being asked. It was more of a rhetorical statement/question. :coy: I almost bought an ACT but wanted to give SPEC a chance since Martin from Speedfactor gave it a HUGE recommendation.

I myself went with a SPEC stage 2. I have an Exedy in my other car, but wanted to try something else. /off topic posting ;)

I was *GOING* to go with the SBR but after hearing good reviews then all of a sudden problems, I'm glad I waited it out a bit.

Good luck w/ the replacement. Another person on this board "Prez" seemed to get a good response from Nate @ SBR in terms of a replacement. Hopefully things work out.

Please keep us updated. :)

I have seen that thread.. Prez was not having any problems with his SBR clutch. He was just questioning if it should look the way it did. If you read the 2nd to last post, he states that the clutch was working fine before he pulled it. Nate at SBR just told him to reinstall it and run it....I wish that was my case...

I bought it (Comp Clutch) through MachV. Sent the parts to MachV and C/C sent me the new stuff direct. They used fast air freight like FedEx or DHL.
