what a pain :notgood:
Yes it is a pain to run the wires but the factory wires are so small they have to be hurting sound quality, especially if you upgrade speakers. Make sure you get some decent wires that aren't .2 millimeters thick. In the end it will be worth it.

You dont have to run new speaker wires. I dont know why everyone says that. That is misinformation. Your stock wiring is just fine unless your using an external amp. Our sound system is set up as a parrallel wiring system. Therefore, just remove your amp and you will be fine. I never messed with running new wires when I threw in my new head unit. Then when I set up a 4-channel amp, I tapped into existing wires, cut the wires and the head unit so the head unit did not receive power from the amp and it works perfectly.

Most aftermarket headunits put out 22-25 x 4 RMS Watts. The factory wiring will work fine with that. Now if you have a 75x4 RMS or 100x4 RMS amplifier, then you'll need to upgrade your factory speaker wiring.

I'm installing Alpine Type S 6.5" components on my car, I installed tweeters inside one of the stock 3.5" dash speakers today and since they handle up to 50W RMS and my headunit puts out 22 x 4 RMS Watts, I'm keeping all my factory wiring. The only thing I did was run seperate wires from the tweeter to the crossovers (which will be under my CD player) since the factory wiring for front speakers is in parallel.

Does anyone know where you can get those for 2gs? all the ones i see are for 1gs

sorry i was refering to the design similar to the slowboy racing bezels

The Scosche kit is kind of junky, with all plastic mounts and a displaced box that's undersized. If you use the Mitsubishi box, you keep the factory steel mounts. MB877180

I did searches and saw that people claim the 97 eclipse is a double din which is what it looks like to me. I have the infinity stock stereo and I want to replace it with something clean that looks as close to factory as possible illumination/color and I found this kenwood double din (also looking for ipod connection ) Kenwood DPX301 CD player with MP3/WMA playback at Crutchfield.com

The thing is that the crutchfield website says that it will not fit in my car. Can someone clarify whether or not double din cd players fit? Thanks

Yes, all double-din audio equipment should fit into your 2g.

Thanks toomey200, can someone please verify that it does fit for sure, anyone have a double din? I am going to order it online and wan't to avoid having to ship it back.

Ok just got off the phone with crutchfield, they said it will fit physically but that it is not designed to line up with the existing setup/plates. I would have to make my own adapter since there is no adapter on the market for aftermarket double din decks. So i guess my question now is "has anyone tackled making a custom adapter to fit an aftermarket double din cd player?"

Well i just put in the kenwood double din no problem fitting, bolts lined up just fine. only thing is that there isn't enough room for the kenwood cd player trim piece so there is a small gap that is annoying me! but yes there is plenty of room, i can't imagine any double din not fitting.

Well here's the thing, from what I know It will fit yes, but you have to make sure that the depth of the radio is no more than i believe 6 3/8 inch. at least I believe that's what crutchfield says. But don't quote me on this.

I don't know why Crutchfield does that. The factory mounts are ISO (Japanese DIN, for all practical purposes) and any modern radio will mount right up, without modification.
They also underestimate the distance available behind the radio, and disqualify some that shouldn't be.
2G DSMs have gangs of room for mounting either single or double DIN.

Just a side note on the area behind the radio, in my GVR4, there is so much room back there, it's not even funny. What is funny, however, is when I took out the stock double din to put in a single din Alpine I have, I found the weirdest socket I've ever seen. I knew it wasn't from the previous owner because there were weird markings on it. It was like a 6 or 7mm but it was an impact socket. I figured it was from the factory.

My friend had a 2g eclipse and people at best buy said the same thing... That it wouldn't fit. I have a 1995, and had no problem test fitting a double-din lcd screen. Are 97 completely different?

For unknown reasons, the catalogs that everyone looks up the specs in are wrong. DSMs have an effing canyon behind the radio. Very handy for muling bricks of cocaine, or smuggling dwarfs across the border.
Now, if we can just shift that space to be under the goddamned steering wheel.

I have a 1g, 92, meaning a single DIN bezel. I got an awesome deal on a double DIN Pioneer with NAV. I'm having a hard time finding a way to install it.

Am I going to need a different bezel?

The single DIN alpine i have in there is just can mounted, basically nothing is holding it in besides the little slip on can with the bent up tabs around the bezel itself. No mounting brackets or anything. Any clues or hints on what to do? Thanks dudes!

I took a piece of aluminum bent it to fit just right and mounted a boost gauge(not functioning but its there when i will need it) and trans temp gauge in the open space w/ room for another gauge if i need it

You can get lucky by heading out to junkyards and find dbl DIN panels that has the pocket added to the lower section of this panel. I've done that a few times.. if I want to keep a stock looking radio setup in the console..and save tonnage of money in the meantime by finding a few of them and tagging them for pennies - which comes in handy incase you fubar one panel, you've got a few spares to work with (or, if you get another DSM that you could do the same install pattern..)

I installed stereos for 3 years, I used a toyota pocket. Metra 88-00-8000. It fits in the factory brackets, most of the holes line up except a couple, all you have to do is drill a couple of self tappers through the side to hold it firm. Take the fuzzy side of a strip of velcro and wrap it all the way around the edge of the radio and pocket to fill the gap. You can settle with that or take the trim ring that comes with the stereo and trim the back to fit over the dash bezzle that fits around the radio and ac switches. Looks great.

I saw this on cardomain, it's some guy's european-spec 2GA, i was wondering if anyone else has seen anything like this. I really like the way it looks, maybe i can make one myself? I have converted the factory double-din to a single-din Alpine head unit, and have just a blockoff plate for the bottom din and was wondering maybe should i put my turbo timer there, or this clock setup.

i also just noticed this, but look at the far left A/C vent control knob - it's different than my US-spec 2GB, at least

what if you put a dvd player on that space and hook up some screens on it will be more nice , well i put some power acoustic stereo on it does got a screen of 5.9' that it cover it up the old cd player i will post it up some pictures later on

if the wires were cut off the stock harness that go to the stock double din and you were going to install a single din cd player what are the colors of the wires to hook up currectly so it doesnt mess up the dimmer switch? (not including the speker wires)
