Chris- How was Pueblo?

Just wondering how the Pueblo event was? Did you encounter any problems with the car or was it a nice carefree weekend?

I couldn't get the car running in time due to a new contract job I took on a few weeks ago. I've been working like crazy, which is a good thing. But I had absolutely no time to work on the car the two weeks leading up to the event. So I just went down and helped out by instructing and running the Time Trials program. I had a student with an STi. He picked up things pretty quick. Overall it was pretty fun. Sucked that no DSMs were on the track though. Fred and I are the only ones representing the DSM crowd out there and we both had issues that kept us from driving. So we pitched in and worked the event instead to help out NASA. We're troopers.

I'll have the car ready for the next event for sure and it will be looking a bit different than it did last time it was on track. You going to make it out in May?

I have been driving around on the street and it's fun. I'm still trying to pick up stick in the DSM and to shift faster. I need to do something about my seat position, I tried my buddies helmet on and my head hits the roof.
If you need some help one night let me know. My chair still there?

While on the subject of seats. When your in your Recaro's does it feel like your sitting on the floor? I need something that gets my head away from the roof.

Flash - I had the same problem as you with hitting my head wearing a helmet. I ended up pulling the roof liner and gluing a permanent black vinyl one to the top. I cut the factory foam piece off just behind the light up front and just in front of the hatch in back and left those in place to smooth the transition. I still have some issues with the window trim when I'm wearing a helmet but at least I have a little more room up above. I just can't push my seat any further towards the center of the car with the e-brake, center tunnel etc in the way.

Chris - one of these days Pagosa DSM and I will be up that way to put in some track time.

I'm actually planning on making some custom brackets for my Recaros so that the seat will be very close to sitting on the floor. The brackets that come with most seats will be tall due to the slider adjustment. I'm getting rid of those.

Grant, Nick, how tall are you guys? I'm about 5' 9" and my helmet doesn't touch the roof.
That's w/stock seats though. You 2 have something different?

I'm 6'2". And I have Sparco Torino's (great for the street, but I do sit too high). They are more of a street seat than a competition seat.
I'm running to a buddies house tomorrow to try out his Sparco competition seats. I hope it gets me closer to the ground.

I found this neat little bracket that Sparco sells. It looks like you can lower the seat position as well as position the seat further back.
Sparco USA

BTW, what are some issues you usually face or think of at the track? Regarding either the car or tools you highly recommend taking along.

Since I'm N/T right now, I don't have to worry to much about breaking anything, but who knows what "demons" lurk around our cars or the track.
I have taken a slew of tools, small hyd. jack, extra used alt.,plug wires, brake fluid, oil (Amsoil of course), pwr. steering fluid, tire gauge, painters blue tape, "racers" tape, etc.

Fhud - I'm 6'4" and have aftermarket seats in the car. The brackets I made to get the seat as low and centered as possible while still sliding are here. The rolled steel cross bars are now welded on instead of bolted in place. I had to take a sledge to the center tunnel in one area to get them to slide forward far enough and they still aren't quite what I'd like. Here are the seats.

Ignore the purple speaker cover. Color scheme experiments back in my more ricey days.

As far as food at the track, is there concession stands or do you pack your own lunch or bring your own little BBQ grill?I have a little E-Z Up canopy, I think that might be useful.
At bigger races like ALMS and sometimes my buddies go kart races they have umbrella girls. Is it a good idea to bring some of them along?

As Fred pointed out, I'd bring extra fluids, a few wrenches (10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm), a few sockets, torque wrench, zip ties, screw drivers, and any special tools you can think of that might be critical. I always bring a bunch and most people will let you borrow something if you need it.

Any ez-up is a cool but make sure you have something very heavy to keep it from flying away. There is a concession stand at Pueblo. Foods not great but it's food. The umbrella girls... not sure.

Between you 2, 5-7" would make a big difference. Great looking interior...especially the purple speaker cover.

Grant, if you sign up to drive, avery good BBQ dinner Sat. night is included.

I was thinking of just coming down for a Sunday (1 day). I feel rushed with it in May, but I think I can be ready by then.

And your car's running. I still have plenty to do. But I'm making this one for sure!
