Colorado Springs Racing Teams?

I am trying to learn more/get more involved with racing (even if it is just a hobby I have no money for at the moment), so I was wondering if there was a team/or experianced individual in the Springs area or even close by that is currently participating in SCCA or NASA racing events in any category (solo2, TT, Rally, Door to Door, etc.)? I tried searching the net a bit to see if there was anything like this going on, but I didn't have much luck coming up with people looking for members. Also I'm not too familar with the difference between SCCA and NASA other than what their official information/brochures they give out say, any help here? It seems to me that the racing process would be much easier, timely, and money efficent if I could learn from somebody that's already done/is doing this stuff then trying trying to figure it all by myself, hence I'm trying to join a team. I'm willing to lend a hand (you know be part of team), donate my free time, learn from other people, get qualified and be a secondary driver, even use my DSM as a track car if needed, or whatever is needed. If you need a extra hand for racing or have any information that could help me let me know.

I don't know of any "teams" but the NASA family is usually very helpful. Just check out our Road Racing forum here on DSMtuners and the NASA forum on NASA RM. I attended most of the events last year and will be at most all of them this year.

It would be nice to have another DSMer out at the race track with us finally

Not many serious DSMers around here who like going to the track.

Customdsm, there's a pretty good discussion going on at CODSM.org regarding road racing. There are a couple of members there who used to run at Second Creek racetrack in Denver, and at least one who is going to be visiting Pueblo this year. One of the members, Ricehunter (his name here is emoguitarboy), is just starting this year as well, so you two may be able to learn from each other's mistakes. If I can get my hands on a set of coilovers, then I may join you and give it a go as well.

Hey Matthew, let those guys know that they're welcome to participate here as well, as we have a lot of Road Race guys in our Road Race forum that are very knowledgeable and experienced.

Also, if they have any questions about NASA RM specifically I can probably answer them, as I'm co-Director for the NASA Time Trials program. If I don't know I can find out. I usually don't have a lot of time to post on other DSM sites so have them post their questions here if possible. I'll definitely be out at the tracks this year.

This also looks like something I definitely want to get into. I plan on taking my car to the drags a lot this summer, but I would LOVE to race my car on a road course.

Ok, thanks for the info so far. Still not sure on the big difference between SCCA and NASA, anyone? Also what's the next step (always plan ahead

) to go amature or even pro racing from either of these organizations? Seems like NASA would be more fun since they have actual "road racing". Still though, I don't have everything necessary, nor the resources (parts, money, or experiance) as an individual to go racing, so that's why I was looking for a "team". So if ludachris, matthewdesigns, emoguitarboy, DSMsOwnYourV8, or whoever is going racing and you need a hand with something let me know. Guess I could start by being a little more specific, does everyone here compete in the same events or classes? Also have DSM's been competitive/winning? Maybe we should come up with/organize a dsm tuners and codsm "team" after all if it turns out a lot of people are doing the same thing and there aren't any team efforts going and get several cars going, or even if it is just like 2 or 3 people and like 1 car everyone works on. It just seems to me there is a lot involved in serious racing like: getting sponsors, prepping car for specific tracks, maintance/repairs, keeping track of rules, analyzing & learning from previous races, staying competitive with different manufactures, see/correct any possible mistakes before they happen, improving driving skill, etc. that I think multiple people working together would have a much better chance of winning and focusing versus a "weekend" racer would. I would like to have fun with this stuff, but of course I would also like to win. Of course if I'm being way too optomistic about racing let me know. In the mean time I'll keep researching via the internet for more answers.

Well the SCCA boards are dead about any info. Guess I should start by getting my NASA license, anyone know what our regions requirements are? Do I really need a cage, extinguisher, restraints, and all that in my car or can I run 100% stock? If so I guess the first step is a. finding a prepped car or b.prepping car from ground up. What do we need to have a DSM class besides enough people? Also any other members gonna' start or thinking about going? I've never been to an event before so I have no idea what to expect beyond what I have read.

Looks like you guys were right so far, I still can't find any real "teams" that exist, just a lot of individuals. The commuity is great and there is a lot of info out there though. Yeah, guess best way is to just go to check out an event first. Looks like the first one for CO is in March though. I got a basic idea about how things are supposed to work: the basic rules, basic mods that help dsm's out and the costs to run in an event (which aren't bad compared to other cars). After doing some more reading though, there is no way I could currently road race by myself. I think "Eventually getting to race would be my goal" is my current goal for right now too. That's why I thought it was much more realistic for me to find a team that's already doing road courses that I could join and help out in some way. Get some first hand and second hand experiance that way for right now. Then about 1-2 years min. I should definitely have enough experiance in all aspects of racing, a race license (which from what I can figure take about 6 months min. itself) and expendable money to just build a car myself and go for it; whether I stick with a dsm or not at that point I don't know.
