So I went autocrossing today and had a blast! While I was there i was talking to one of the faster drivers in the grid next to me and he mentioned a phone app that he is testing that combines the data from his car(s2000) and the video from his Go Pro.

Then he started to talk about how he has seen drivers take 2 Go Pro video fromtwo different drivers and the GPS (to get mph and positioning) and overlay it. Then they are able to review it and critique how to improve driving or how to run a better line.

Is anyone running a setup anywhere near what I am describing?

Im thinking that I'll use DSMlink to log, then a GoPro to get the video, then ill edit it to have one above the other, then upload it to youtube and link it here. Obviously this won't happen until next season starts but what do you guys think?

Damn, yes, thats exactly what I meant... So much for being the first :p
I'm think of doing footage on the top half and then graphs on the bottom but that is just a slight variation. Having only done 4 autocross events, I am still getting used to being smooth with the throttle and brakes. More often than not I'm mashing one or the other; thank god for ABS! Having the graph should make it pretty clear on how much it's hurting my times.

Don't go overboard on the GPS aspect, it is far too inaccurate for autocross use. Even 20Hz GPS only gets the car to +/- a couple of feet, and in autocross lines are +/- one inch. Also GPS-derived G is too slow to show your errors, you need real hardware accelerometer data in order to see the slip/grip as you push too hard.

I use MaxQData with a 10Hz GPS receiver. It's true that it does not give as high resolution as one would like (especially when vehicle speeds are high), but I still find it to be a useful tool. Some every interesting things can be learned from comparing the data between different runs and / or drivers.

I also capture ECMLink logs while running, especially on the road course.

For video, I use a Drift HD mounted to my roll bar. Then later I'll sometimes overlay the data on the video (see YouTube), but I don't find that adds much value in itself. The most value is in looking at the data traces, and using video to recount exactly what occurred on each run.

I use purely video only as feedback between my runs. I feel that getting the course 100% engraved into your head is priority #1. If you position the camera where you can see your hands on the wheel, then you can monitor how smooth you are. Sometimes looking at your runs through data you can easily be fooled.

Example of one of my runs from Nationals:
