What are people using? I know DMS (Drummond MotorSports) and Hotbits have made proper rally coilovers. Ohlins? Reiger? Proflex?

My reccecar sports KYB AGXs but they wouldn't last long in stage rallying. Probably good cheap adjustable struts for rallyX though. The KYB Gr2 suck and wear out very fast over bumps.

He probably means business based on the names listed in the OP. KSports are not serious coilovers.

I doubt that the "rally" versions are made somewhere other than the same DS/Ksport/Megan sweatshop in China.

Price one set of HotBits and you'll feel where I'm going with this. ;)

Yup i know but i doubt the OP is willing to pay that money for a suspension thats why he is asking for other brands, well i don't know. LOL

You can tell he is serious by the way he is asking about real companies, not Chinese stuff. People who use their car for actual competition don't care if parts cost more than the book value on their car, they want results. Any part that uses "spec." behind it for a name is cheap and "spec." is a rice term. J-spec...

This thread is full of LOLs.. Thanks Kidtsi. Those Rally Spec Coilovers from K-Sport would be good for people who live in areas where the road construction crews have problems understanding that roads need to be flat, paved, and flat to fucntion properly.

I seriously dont understand how they thing pouring some gravel in a hole and then putting a small bit of fresh tarmac over it means the road is fixed.

But at least with one of the K-Sport sets you can support stock ride height, then drop it down for the auto-x track. And the other may be useful for the amateur Rallycrosser. But based on the companies he named, I dont think he is spending that amount of money on an amateur sport.

To elaborate what I sad before on a more sane note, K-sports, Tein, Megan, those are fine for people who want a street car that handles good, rides good, but doesn't cost as much as racing parts, and does some light competition. Now for the 1g that Konis are gone, I think those coilovers everyone bashed before are now what the Koni/GC setup was.

So, uhm, I'm not looking for a rally suspension at the moment. The thread was just about talking in rally in general to help potential future DSM rally teams and to get a dedicated rally forum on here.

Yeah, that K-Sport isn't anything I'd suggest anyone buy for stage rallying in N America. Its advertised as 'designed specifically for asphalt rally competition'. There are only 2 asphalt rallies here and any true rally suspension that would handle the rough gravel and snow surfaces with jumps could be dampened and ride height lowered for asphalt (we call it tarmac BTW). No specs for the piston diameter, no remote reservoirs and the super cheap price are clues you wouldn't want it to be doing this several times a day

or over this all day.

Neither would you Tein, Megan or Konis.

I did buy a DMS 50mm suspension 10 years ago for a Subaru and w/ discount for supplier being a team sponsor, still paid over $2200. I see the cheapest 2way (there are also 3 and 5 way) 50mm DMS on sale last year for $4140. The Riegers that we use in the Subarus I codrive are supposedly $8000 per corner.

What are your opinions on GAB shocks? I came across a used set of front GAB rally shocks for so cheap a while back, I couldn't pass them up. They say competition only but are not adjustable. I had them installed with some new stock top hats and they were incredibly stiff. However, when I took some gravel roads and driving over very rough surfaces the shocks really started to shine.

I currently have them off since I was doing ice runs with the car (softer is better) but do want to try them with autox.

I'd contact JVAB about getting some custom valved 50mm bilstein based suspenders fabbed up, they run about 2k through him

Thats an idea, but be warned JVL himself is a wackjob and has history of taking $ w/o shipping product for extended periods.

pjhe, you running Summit Point rallyx w/ your DSM?

Hi, can any of you that have real rally experience point me towards some of the rally series that are run in north america right now? I'm aware of the Rally America series. I want to build an open light car.

In the US, there is Rally America and NASA Rallysport. If you are in Illinois, Rally America would probably be best considering tow mileages. NASA seems to have most events on either coast w/ exception of Idaho.

And in Canada, the sanctioning body is CARS (Canadian Assoc. of RallySport). Canadian events are worth the tow. They are televised in English and French in Canada and Europe and are very well organized. No open light class, w/ AWD you'd want a turbo and run PGT or Open. Anyone can run open in Canada w/o previous experience or coefficients.

Thats kinda what I figured. I'm hoping to try a couple rally-x events with my gallant this spring/summer.

So today I bought a new 50MM DMS suspension. Got it from a close buddy who wasn't using it for $2500. New at US DMS dealers they are $5250. Will likely install next weekend and post pics.
