I want to have an Auto-X competition at my highschool. There's a school board meeting tommorow night, so I can ask the school board for permition to race in the school parking lot then. I just need to know what I need to host an Auto-X competition. Do I need special insurance etc etc. Let me know - school board meeting tommorow night.

Since when I posted this I'm seriously considering changing everything over to rally racing. So to edit what I asked ealier. Say there's a place that's perfect/ could easily be turned into a rally racing course. If I could get the permission of the owner of the land to race on it what else would I need to (for example licenses/ insurance etc etc) to start holding competitive rally racing competitions (time trials). The people that I hope would participate would be people around my age & up using their own vehicles. It wouldn't really be like an "Official League or Track" it 'd hopefully be just a bunch of crazies out on a dirt/ gravel pit/ trail(s) in the woods tearing it up for the pure fun & adrenaline rush with the added bonus of alittle cash on the side if you beat everybody else's time.

So what do you think?

I don't know who the moderator is for this section of the forums but I thought this would be the best place to post this since upon viewing DSMTuners forums DSMTuners doesn't actually have a "Rally Racing" section. I figured Rally Racing is closest in form to Road Racing & AutoX.

Best advice I can give you is talk to a racetrack promoter in your area first, then contact there insurance agent and tell them what you have in mind, once the agent tells you the price to insure an event you will see that its next t impossible to hold an event without charging $300 plus per car for 20 cars to have fun. If the insurance doesnt scare you then getting the city permit is another fun obstical to tackle.

Im not trying to sound like an ass but This is a big reason why Nasa is so expensive along with just track days

In approaching SIte owners for permission. The last thing you should do is refer to the AUtoX as a RACE. It is a timed, Low speed, Car Control Event. When you say "Race" They will immidiatley invision a bunch of Teenage drivers racing door to door in Dad's BMW and killing themselves on the property.

You have to have a Parental Permission form and I think the parents have to be ON Site to even compete in an SCCA autoX if you are under 18.

I'd definatley seek out the SCCA club in your state area. They are always looking for sites and can pitch your school administrators the right way on the event. FI: This could be done under the guies of a drivers Edu/Safe Driver program

Sorry guys, I haven't been on here that much recently, things have been a little hectic and in the midst of things I completely forgot about my post on here.

But regardless of me and my excuses.. I probably won't be starting any auto-x stuff or anything alike at or near my school.. The teachers have been going on strike for the past two years due to an unsettled contract between them and the school. Needless to say our school system here is so messed up I dont think I, or anyone else for that matter, would even be able to think of getting into a school board meeting and asking permission to race around the teachers parking lot, wether it be headed by a reputable racing organization or not. Unless there was some way my school could make some money out of it. But even then I'm sure they'd comlain about the tire marks all over the pavement.. They always seem to have something to complain about  .

Oh well, I have college and what not coming up soon anyways so it's highly unlikely that I'd be able to devote enough time to something like that anyways.. unless I only held one of them every once in a while or something along those lines..

I dont know, but either way, I have to focus first on making it through the rest of my senior year of high school, so it's out of the question, atleast for now..

Thanks for the help/ information though. :/

I think if you tried to pursue this, you'd find out why so few events are held anymore. However, instead of a school, try local shopping centers, airstrips and military bases.

It will just cost way too much to get property coverage (insurance) to cover such an event. Then with the required (each state being different) medical, or emergency personnel, and the man hours, not to mention the license that you must have from either state/county. Might as well just find a place already doing such an event and register yourself and friends in the event.

There is a rally course not far from me that charges $600.00 a day for groups who want to hold events.

Also, there are events held at our stadiums here in KC. Kauffman Stadium and Arrowhead have HUGE parking lots and they use them to the fullest for a couple SCCA events throughout the year.

This is only my expereince here, but the club events tend to be more low-key and relaxed with people willing to help out with car setup and driving tips. This would seem to be the best idea for what this person is looking for. They might even set up a separate "class" if you bring in a group of younger kids like this.

The 3-4 SCCA events I've attended have not shared this same atmosphere. Everyone kept to themselves, protested results, etc.... Kind of the same reason why I think NASA had had success with their open track events and the SCCA seems to have become pretty stagnant.

Well, I can't really argue with that. I have only attended local club events myself; but the environment is as you say with the local clubs. However, many of the people in the local club are also SCCA members. I'm going to try to get out to an SCCA event next year; it's been on my to do list for quite some time. We'll see how it goes.
