time attack
I was at the recent Redline Time Attack at Summit Point and would like to mention that an Eclipse finished third in street fwd. Drivers name was Matt Johnson and I think he was sponsored by Ecm tuning.

I was there
It was a black 2g. I talked to the guy at the event. He told me he had stock suspension! Throw some coilovers on there and he could be even better.

Yeah . . . 1997 GST:
Also just wanted to add that I was actually running on some Koni Yellows and GC coilovers
Sure would be nice to get some more DSMs out there!

Just goes to show you that sometimes the class you get put in isn't always too difficult to compete in even if your car isn't all built up the way you want it. You might get lucky and wind up in a class that isn't full of fast cars. Sometimes it's about luck too!
Not to say that the guy wasn't a good driver, which it sounds like he was.

My bad dude, must have misunderstood. I got that most of your $ was in motor though.
I think the FWD DSMs have a good shot in Time Attack.
AWD DSMs have to compete with built Evos and STi's so its tougher.
FWD might be the way to go!

Ahh no worries man
I've always wanted an AWD DSM from day-1 but circumstances put me in FWD.
I definitely believe the FWD is underestimated for potential in its class. It will never have
the speed/grip of AWD, but can definitely see it being a contender against other FWD platforms.
I hope to find out.

Hey now....Dont go selling FWD short on the road race scene. Collier did quite well with his and I hold my own against all the Porsches, BMWs, 350's etc. in my series. You dont always have to have an AWD to get traction out there. Chassis setup is the biggest thing out there. That and some rubber underneath these things
Glad to see some more interest in road racing DSMs out there. Keep up the good work

Thanks for the congrats - I'm definitely not selling the FWD DSM short. Fact is, most people don't even see it coming. Time and time again I have people approach me and are surprised to find out that it is FWD after seeing it on the track or elsewhere.
It truly is a loss with drivers such as Collier leaving for other pursuits, but such is life.
I'd definitely like to see the videos when you get em posted and for all of the other Road Racing / Solo drivers out there, we should keep in touch. Never hurts to share what is (and isn't) working with our respective setups.

That looks like a helluva fun track by the way. Looks like a really high speed semi-straight away.

Not at first, you don't. Not unless your brakes/tires/trans are about to give out. New pads and street tires with a decent amount of tread will do in the beginning.
I hear this all the time - don't wait until you have mods to go out and have fun. You can go out with a stock DSM and have some fun, as long as it's in good running condition.

I'll agree with Chris - If you have decent tires, fresh pads and all of your maintenance items taken care of (fresh fluids, etc . . .) that will be PERFECT to jump into HPDEs or even just open track days.
The best mod you can ever do is mod the driver - go out and get some seat time!
And yeah- Shenandoah Circuit is definitely fun. Has some good elevation changes and the carousel is quite the experience! Quite a few people refer to it as a high-speed AutoX course

Thanks man- I've definitely learned a lot about my setup and where it needs work to be more efficient and reliable. I can't wait to address some of the issues and get back out there next season.

True! I have EBC greens, car runs awesome but trans needs rebuild, sounds like a dogbox although it shifts like BUTTER..any ideas what would whine big time in a trans? It's pretty loud and only when in gear. It was rebuilt back in 2005.
The suspension is def tired, it would probably be body roll hell if i took it on the track.
So i guess trans and suspension and ill be ready to hit a track day.
