Hey guys, I was wondering if the rear brace (that connects the rear shock towers) on a 1G is necessary once a cage is welded in? I read up on some people removing it but they didn't say if they road raced or not so I didn't know if their experience was relevant or not.

Any idea?

It would seem that if you're cage was braced to the shock towers and then cross braced that you could remove the oem brace. What are you're reasons for wanting to do this? (weight savings) I would personally leave it in even with a cage but that's just me.

Chris - If you did a cage similar to this one, it looks to me that they have welded the braces between the shock towers. So you would actually have to remove it.

This is a 2G which is slightly different though. I'm thinking weight savings and just seeing what excess metal can be removed safely.

I see man. I knew it was a 2G, just didnt know if you wer talking about something similar to this in your 1G or not. And I totally understand what you mean from a safety point of view. Just adding my $0.02.

I have my cage going between the strut bars currently with the brace cut out. It is MUCH stiffer laterally than it was before. Here's the only pic I have of it on my work computer (this is BEFORE the cage was completed and before the brace was cut out).
