Well I was never the biggest fan of the stock mirrors. Too big, paint peeled, and the damned driver's side one was always jiggling. Ended up finishing the fab work on the mounting plates last night. Should have them bondo'ed and painted by Sunday night. These drop some serious weight, literally 1/5th the weight of the stockers, and make the stock ones look about as aerodynamic as a brick shithosue.

Mirrors are carbon fiber GT mirrors from Racer Parts Wholesale there in Indy. Mirrors themselves are convex so for their small size you get a nice and wide viewing range. Not much to see in the vertical direction, but then again, there's not much to see other than curbs and clouds anyways. The mounting plate was anything but smooth and getting the metal cut to the right shape so it would still seal up the factory hole was a royal pain. The stock rubber "gasket" is still behind and with a Dab of rtv and a little pressure it should seal up all around.

I'll not be fighting with these stupid things again so you're on your own if you want a pair.

So far I've only backed about 5 feet out of the garage so it's hard to say, I'll make sure and update the thread with some real life experiences once I get some.

Nice fab work Kyle. Do they seem to be more stable than the old ones? I know I've noticed mine are a little hard to see out of at times, do to vibration.

:)

Good question. I would like to know that as well. I have a hard time seeing sometimes when I am running on some bumpy surfaces, or some bad spots on the track. Let us know Kyle. Nice job on the fab work. :thumb:

Any pics? I dunno if I could justify $800 for a set of mirrors though...

Uh, there was a misunderstanding somewhere. The mirrors themselves are $83 a piece and the whole package will be under $200 even if I have them powder coated or anodized. I was just telling Chris that I'd gladly try to make those stupid mirror mounting plates again for the low low price of $800. They're a pain to try and get right and took me most of the day with my pathetic sheetmetal working tools. Read: vice, mallet, and blocks of wood.

These things are featherweight. I'll try to get a weight difference tonight between the two. I can't imagine the stockers are much more than 5-7 lbs a piece, but these are utter flyweights so you may be looking at a 3-5lb weight loss per side.

I was actually just kidding around with that post. Sorry Kyle.

Figured you were, wasn't sure about the other guy.

I just wish there was a ball-socket joint somehere else. the mirrors almost sit in front of the windshield and look sort of funny, but it's the only way to get them adjusted correctly.

I can see where you see that. But personally I dont think they look funny at all. I actually like the way they look on your car. Reminds of my LMP cars in the American Le Mans series. They are so sleak and all of a sudden you have this little carbon fiber mirrors sticking up out of the body line. I like them.

Overall, I'm very satisfied, but I nitpick sometimes.

Sorry for bringing back a dead thread; but they make bolt-on ones for 2g... :( wtf, lame!
TCSportline produces them and you can get them for around 150 shipped for both sides. Just letting some of you 2g guys know.

I wonder if it would be easier to to just modify the stock manual mirror mounting frame with maybe ABS plastic?
