My buddy has a 97' TSi FWD. He has a EVO 3 16G, a FMIC, Injen Intake, Underdriver Pulley, Hks SSQ Bov, TurboXS Boost Controller set at 18 Psi, and a AF-C that is tuned to 0 throughout currently. He was racing some dude last night and during the race the car lost ALL power, so he popped it in neutral and the car just died. He pulled it off to the side and we tried restarting it and it just cranked. We looked at the engine for like a hour and didnt see anything too obvious so we tried starting it again, it started but ran Horribly and Shook like crazy. Then we had to move the car due to instructions from a cop and we looked again. We thought his intercooler piping popped because it is showing all the symptoms so we put his stock one back on and it was the same thing barely started and when we got it started it idled horribly and shook like crazy. What could it be?????? Compression is 150 across the board so it isnt a blown headgasket.

I dont want to scare you but it sounds like he might have bent valves. My car also shook horribly and would accelerate when I had bent valves.
But who know it might be something else.

Do you think that it jumped timing? Because the car was running perfectly. I was thinking the same thing but it just seems weird, for that to hapenn out of the blue on a very well maintained car.

There is more than one IC pipe, ya know. ;)

Yah no shit, I was talking about puting the stock Intercooler back on.

Sounds like a long shot, but did you check your AFC settings? I was playing with a S-AFC with the sensor settings, and it would run awful unless it was on the Kardon (I think whatever our cars are)

Something to check *shrugs*

Well The timing is correct, all the marks line up perfectly. I was thinking that maybe it could be the injectors because that night he put a gallon or so of race gas and a bunch of octane booster stuff in it. Someone mentioned he could have messed up the injectors with it because they are stock, also he has had the AFC in for a couple weeks now and has had no problems and has made many runs with it.

race gas / octane "booster" won't hurt the injectors at all.

It does sound like you popped an intercooler pipe (how much of it did you replace, is there any spots you missed, like the UIC, or the turbo-outlet). Have you done the obvious, $2 intake leak test yet?

Yah we did a leak test on his FMIC and piping and got no leaks at all so we started it up and the same thing happend so we put his stock one on and didnt get any leaks at all and it did the same thing, nothing changed, still ran horribly or actually barely ran.

wait sorry i forgot, by "stock one" i mean the stock intercooler, sorry guys, LOL jk lando

Well I did a compression test and the results were 1-135, 2-100, 3-0, 4-140. So there is definately something wrong with #3. But I knew that something was wrong when I pulled out the sparkplug (see pic) the center of it was completely gone, on the other plugs it comes out to about the level of the electrodes (i think thats what they are called) and also if you look at whats left of it , it is ground down pretty bad. What do you guys think? Valves, Piston???

Bent valve, damaged piston. My car did the same thing. The valve hit the piston, then the bent valve made contact with the sparkplug. Pull the valve cover. The rocker on that cylinder is probably knocked off. My piston was justed scared. I just had the machine shop rebuild the head and I was good to go.

i no exactly wut happend it happend to my car bout 5 weeks ago i was just driven down the highway and it started sputterin and luggin i made it home did compresion test and i got 135-1 120-2 0-3 132-4

theres a hole in one of the valves in the 3 cyclinder does it make a psst sound every time it fires, if so it is on the exhaust side u gotsa get a new motor or rebuild the dam thing i found a place where u can get brand new motors for cheap wit no core charge all u need is oil pan valve cover and both mannys i will return wit a price for ya

ryan:laser:

Why would I have to replace the whole motor? Cant I just buy a new set of valves? Im gonna pull the head off tommoro and see whats up.
Ill let ya all know.

well it depends how many miles does the bottom end have on it etc.
cuz if the bottom end is old the if u put all ne top end stuff in the bttom will start blowin up LOL

You are going to want a machine shop to inspect the head for damage, before you go throwing valves back in it:thumb:

OH shit. Hell no you did the same thing a guy did with his van. How much octane booster did you put in. Or was it injector cleaner. Either one witll blow your motor if you put to much in. THIS IS DANGERIOUS. I've had three people come in, in the last two months that have put two bottles of injector clean and the same crap happened to there car. I think your motor is toast man. You might be able to salvage the bottom end. but I highly dought it.
