1.8L auto trans not working in 93 eclipse

ok for one i cant find the auto trans dip stick, call me retarded, i just got this car for free, the guy said the trans stopped working all of a sudden, he was backing up and blah, nothing, there is a half quart of dexron mercon in the trunk, the shift linkage is all hooked up too... if you know how to help, please, all the trans does is put out a slight hummm

Well,
check for unhooked connectors on the tranny, around where the air can is.

something is either un hooked, or the torque converter is trashed.
