1G How to tell if ecu is bad by lookin at it?

im checkin out my ecu to see what shape its in visually the caps and board looks ok no burn marks or leaky caps, but there is some trace of a fine gritty residue on the board. not much it comes off easy with a q tip. the caps look fine looks like nothing ever leaked from em. the same brown residue is also on the back of the ecu also its not thick very light traces if u look closly. what does it look like when a cap did leak?
can i take it to the mitsu dealership to have it tested? i dont know of any place where i live that can check it out.

usually when caps are leaking the stuff that comes outta them is brown. Is the brown goo in the general area of the caps? Since you have it out you might as well get a new set put in as prevenative maintenence.

yea its in the genereal area of the caps, but not really a goo more like a dry film. ill change em. ill try radio shack to see if they have the appropriate caps or the local electronic suppy store.

I doubt radio shack will have them for a how to go HERE then go to electrical then to ECU Capacitor Replacement and you can order new caps off that page through Digi-Key Good Luck
