.....crankwalk. Recently, my car developed an extremely loud creaking noise whenever the steering wheel was physically turning. Everyone I talked to pretty much assumed it was the ball joints. I haven't been able to take it in to find out, though, because now I'm having trouble with the clutch pedal and shifter. The pedal has virtually no resistance. When pressed to the floor, it stays there. With the engine running, I can't even begin to get the shifter into any gear but reverse where it will only grind. With the car off, I can shift into any gear.....but when I try to start the car in gear it lurches forward for a second until the engine smooths out. I was able to circle my cul-de-sac and pull into the driveway in 1st gear, with the clutch pedal depressed the whole time.

I've tried to be as specific as I can about the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd appreciate it.

Chris

Edit: I was just reading another post about slave and master cylinders going bad. I recently had the slave cylinder replaced. Could it be that I just need a new master cylinder?

I've read so many posts of people thinking they have dreaded crankwalk problem. In fact it isn't as common as people think it is. Sounds to me that your hydro system for the clutch is leaking and not disengaging the clutch. If you already had your clutch slave replaced then it there might have been contamnation in your lines that wore away its seal and could have worn the master as well. Are you getting any ghost pedal? If you pump the clutch pedal does it fully disengage? If you suspect the creaking to be ball joints, you can test them by raising the front of you vechicle and wiggle each tire vertically...there should be no play.
