i dont have abs. my brakes lock up very easily even if i dont slam them down or push them down real hard. is this normal? my friend doesnt have abs and his dont lock up no matter how hard u hit em ? do i need new brakes?

-Not all tires are equal, if the tires have less traction, they're not gripping the road, so they just slice along (lock-up) when you step on the brake, I'm not saying that's what happen with your car, just a suggestion to look into, or might be you have better brake set up then your friend's.

Odds are you're only locking one or two wheels.

Check your brakes, see if any have damaged/missing/worn pads. Check for brake fluid leaks.

Jack up the car, have a friend help you, spin the wheels manually with your hands, and then try to spin them with the brakes on.

You'll more than likely find a wheel that is stuck, or that won't stop.

When my rear driver caliper e-brake connection siezed, the rear wheels would lock up at just the slightest touch of the brakes. It made for some harrowing stops.
