Emmaus,
I keep noticing on my 1990 Eclipse GSX that my oil pressure gauge reads funny. My oil pressure usually sits at the half way mark when I am driving and then drops all the way to the far left side when I am not. On my friends (1G eclipse)car the oil pressure usually sits 3/4 of the way when he is driving. Anybody know anything about this? Do I have bad oil pressure or is my gauge just screwy? Anybody with any info or suggestions please let me know. About two weeks ago I replaced my oil pressure switch because it was leeking. I dont know if it has anything to do with it. The oil pressure gauge seems to be acting the same though even with the new oil pressure switch. I just hope the gauge is faulty and not anything major.

Per the manual it can be below the Low mark at idle - but if I understand you correctly it's ALL THE WAY - do you mean ALL THE WAY to the far side at IDLE? - If so that is LOW Indication at idle & 1/2 way is not very high while running either - mine are higher. Is the Idiot Light (runs off your new Pressure Switch) not flickering at idle? Seems like it would be! I'd check the Connectors at the Gauge Bell & Pressure Switch first - They catch hell down there - You probably should slap a mechanical gauge on it at one of those fittings & crosscheck - You could try going up a notch on Oil Weight - run 10w 40 vice 10w 30 for example - I wouldn't run 20w 50 up North where you are - I suppose you could do a motor flush - Or pull your Oil Pressure Relief Valve out of the Oil Filter Housing & make sure it's not fouled & stuck partially open! - HOPEFULLY it's NOT a bearing clearance problem - As in one that;s getting ready to spin & kill your Crankshaft!!! - This is kind of a BIGGY... If the above list doesn't fix it - It would be prudent to pull the Oil Pan & check rod & main bearings ASAP!!!

That's why Mitsu put the gauge there~!

Buck, to answer some of your question:
do you mean ALL THE WAY to the far side at IDLE?
It sits at the first bar when I am at idle, not all the way to the far left as if the car was off. Sorry about that.

My Oil idiot light has only come on once since I bought the car(July 03') and that is when my OP switch went. I havn't seen it on since.

Thanks for the tips guys. Lets hope one of these fixes the prob. God, I love this website :thumb:

it sits at the first notch at idle thats where mine sits and when im driving its a lil bit above the 1/2 way mark

That is actually a little HIGH at idle if you were to look at the Manual - but your fine! Man don't wind us up like this!

my oil pressure goes pratically all the way to the left to almost as the car is off and about half way when im driving i thought that was normal thats what someone told me.
