Ok, i just bought a 97 GST. I fixed most of what's wrong but there is still one problem remaining. Everytime i take off straight i hear a creaking or a poping. It's not the drive axles i had them inspected. Both lower control arms have been replaced and the tie rods are fine. One thing was a bit weird, this car was not equipped with ABS, but on the passenger side where the noise is coming from, it has a ABS hub. The mechanic pointed this out to me when i went to the transmission shop. Anyone have an idea of what this creaking might be?

I don't know what to make of the ABS question. You could contact a dealer and give them the vin and id tag code. That will tell all the equipment, paint color etc which cam on the car including if it had ABS.

Your noise is not as easy to solve. Shock tower rubber insulator and bearing can make this noise. Look at the spring ends and see if they have been moving. Could be an indication that an engine mount is wearing which allows the engine to torque which in turn will tweak the exhaust system into making noise. Check swaybar bushings, any other silentblock bushings plus check any related bolts for being loose.

I'm sure I missed a couple but first choice is the top of the shock tower and the large rubber mount.

Cheers,

The car was never designed for ABS but it has an ABS hub, the mechanic mentioned that it might be the upper part of the strut. But i am still unsure, i just know the sound is coming from that side. I am probably going to replace the hub and get new struts and engine mounts and Energy suspension inserts.

Sorry but I'm just not understanding what part is being identified as an ABS hub. You have a hub which the disk brake and wheel are bolted with lug nuts. The caliper (ABS??) is attached to the swivel/kingpin/axle/bearing/lower balljoint are attached to the strut. Is there a difference from one side to the other that you can see? Does the car pull to left or right?
