I took out the old alternator last week because it was not working. Well yesterday I installed a rebuilt one, and now don't know where one of the wires go. It's a black one thats coming from the black connector that connects to the alternator. We then jump started the car with that wire unhooked and the car kept turning off when we took the jump start cables off as if the alternator was not working at all. And the damn thing(alternator) would get so hot that it started to burn the belt. If you could just look at your alternator to see where that black wire connects to I'd really apreciate it. THANX:thumb:

I found out where that black wire goes but it still turns off as soon as you take the booster cable off of the other cars battery. Also when the car is on the alternator make a squeeling noise. Have anothere question though, is the second wire that connects to the alternator(the one with the loop thats held by a nut) spose to be connected to the front bolt or the one closest to the drivers seat.

get a new alternator, not a rebuilt one, i went and got a brand new one 4 i think like 250 canadian, under 200 us, it as soon as i put it in went well didnt have to jump started it or nothing! i think u got screwed with the rebuilt one

On a response to the post above there is nothing wrong with getting a rebuilt alternator next to a new one, as long as the place knows what their doing.(mine had to be rebuilt when I bought my car)

It sounds to me like you wrecked your rebuilt alternator. You did 2 things wrong. On a DSM you shouldn't hook a battery charger up to the battery while its still attached to the car. And you shouldnt have started the car If it wasnt even hooked up all the way first. I know the question your asking about the wire and the nut though because I had the same one when I changed my alternator and I just looked at my friends car. If you can post a pic Ill show you where it goes. Maybe you got lucky and didn't break anything.
