Weird exhaust noise...

Hey guys, i hope someone has an answer for me. I installed my Apexi N1 exhaust last winter and ever since i installed it, it makes a really odd sound out of the muffler. Its like a sputter noise..not a popping..its really hard to explain. Does anyone know what could cause this? It sounds really good above idle, but while idling it makes this strange noise. Could an exhaust leak cause this? I know it was leaking near the test-pipe. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The dreaded exhaust gurgle. While idling, an ocassional but consistent gurgle, like water is in the pipes. Is there a corresponding engine miss/shake at the precise moment of the gurgle? I removed the coolant lines to the throttle body without performing the mod oulined in the vfaq. Someone said I have an injector with a poor idle spray pattern. Any rpm above idle is fine, and my car runs weel enough to defeat stock z-28's with authority. What do you think? Try a fuel system cleaner mad by Berrymans. It is sold by pep boys and comes in a red white and blue aluminum can. This has helped clear up the gurgle, but it returns after about 4 tankfuls after the cleaner. The real stuff in that cleaner is acetone.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. The noise isnt a gurgle, and its not a popping. Its really hard to explain and if the car ran right now i would get a sound clip of it. It almost sounds like there's like a plastic bag inside the muffler. Its really odd...but it sounds good above idle. Thats the best i can explain it. All other DSMs i have heard sound good even at idle, but mine just sounds weird. Let me know if you've ever heard any other sound besides a gurgle or a pop (mine also makes those noises from time to time). Thanks a lot!

Your car has a test pipe, the sound is crisper than usual. Is that what you mean? Crisper and more "echoey"? It's all good, man. Rock on.

haha ok man, thanks. It started when i put the test pipe and n1 exhaust on...so I got a little worried that i messed somethin up ( i dont know what i could mess up though ). Thanks!

well i just got my extremepsi 3" catback on about two week ago, the pipe is rattling on the chasis and also touches the rear sway bar. The only solution I can think of is leave the hanger bolted on and remove the welds on the pipe then push up on the piping so that it's no longer in contact with the sway bar and chasis and then reweld the hanger to the piping. It gets really annoying and it's loud, when I'm driving I can hear it above the exhaust note.
