After installing my BOV today i noticed that my battery had water on it. I though there was a leak somewhere from the hood so i drove the car to test out the BOV. After getting back i hear a noise from the battery and noticed some water coming from it like it was boiling. I am stock besides the BOV but i do have some indiglos and a Stereo system with 2 amplifiers hooked up. The battery is a year old and came out of my GS. I never seen water come from a battery so i am abit concerned and baffled. Thanks in Advance.....

Running an aftermarket stereo with amps puts a load on a battery; overtime this extra strain can take its toll and damage the battery (shorts, leaks, weaken the acid). Sounds like its time for a new battery.

Yeah, if your battery is under a lot of strain, it can actually overheat, and it's full of water, so it just boils.

I'm not sure about die-hard warranties, but you sound like you could use a high-quality battery. I've heard that those Optima ones are really good, powerful, and last long.

Anybody else know if Optima is as good as they say?

So does anyone know if the GS/RS battery is too small for a TSI? I just swapped it out since it was newer then the one in there. I didn't reallize that all the stereo system would cause a problem. Anyone from CT know where i can get an optima battery from.

I was gonna post that same question...!
Someone I know has one that's lasted 10 years already, but on a car that's garage-kept except for a few car shows.
I haven't heard anything bad about them.

I agree with everyone else...time for a new battery. ANYTHING coming out of a battery would worry me! :D

Yes, that could cause more current draw from the battery.
Test your charging voltage.

Was kind of hoping to get one online and pay dealer cost. IS that possible or am i better off buying one from Pep Boys itself. I imagine it is alittle bit of a risk delivering batteries.

A battery is a battery. Unless you are talking Optima batteries. Just find a cheap battery with good amp output and a good warrenty. I bought one at walmart for like $75 with 3 year free replacement. I think it was like 850CCA. That is WAY overboard, but it can't hurt. All batteries are basicually constructed the same. 6 cells, 2.1volts each cell, etc.

My guess is a bad Voltage Regulator (it's in the Alternator) - Ever overcharge a Battery? It boils out the fluid... BTW, the high charging voltage may take out your ECU too... After you put in the new Alternator you may want to back down your stereo until you get a consult from an electrical guru. Good Luck.

Optima yellow tops are awesome, so Ive heard. To exspensive for my taste though. Still thumpin hard with my 2 12" PG TI12D Elites...waiten on my 3rd amp and 15" to go in..all on a stock GS battery :) Killed 1 altenator already though :(
