clutch is acting really wierd

I have a 96 Eagle Talon Tsi (FWD) and all and all its pretty stock, with just an intake and a muffler. But anyways , my problem is the car has like no power in first gear and the clutch pedal is real squishy, like you can mash to the floor and it still feels like thiers nothing to it and it also catches like a half an inch after you let it out. I try to lay into it from a dead stop by letting the clutch out at the catch point and it hesitates as if it were an automatic. And also if try to dump the clutch at any rpm below 5k it spins for a split second and then violently jolts the car like up and down and it feels like i just hit something. like 2-4500 rpms it does this , the windshield wipers go on and the whole car just jolts. So one night at a parking lot i try it higher just to see and spins like its supposed to and i did that a couple of times because my starts are like real bad and i lose races to cars that i can easily beat like GSRs. Well anyway i get back later that night and the car starts to act real funny so i get it check out and i have half inch play in the crank. So would crankwalk make the car do all that wierd stuff. Because before it ran fine just the clutch was wierd and now i can drive for like 5 mins after letting it cool down over night and then the rpms drop when i push the clutch in.

Yes, your clutch will feel very crappy when you have that much amount of thrust play.

I was'nt sure because i could'nt dump the clutch at like 3k when the car was running right and i had just got it checked out 2 weeks ago and it was within factory specs and then i tryied to let the clutch at 3k rpms and it just jolted and then i stopped doing it after like 2 weeks go by i try again and then i have a lot of play.
