My RPMS are revving up on their own to 7000+ rpms!!! PLEASE HELP

As the title said my RPMS will occassionally jump up on their own to 7000+rpms when I quickly floor my car. Right now if I turn on my car they will jump up, I checked out the throttle body in the engine bay and it appears that the unit is slightly opened, meaning it isnt fully closed. I'm not looking at the throttle plate, but rather the outside of it, noticing that it isnt fully closed. I have opened up the cruise control box and it doesnt appear that anything is catching in there. I serioulsy cant figure it out. Someone please help out with some experience on this matter as this isnt safe by any means.

Hmmm..... It's been a while since I've heard this complaint. Has someone been under the hood of recent and playing a dirty trick on you? I'm only guessing but I'll toss out a couple ideas. A vacuum hose has been rerouted and pulling on the cruise control when it should be performing some other task. Cruise controll/spedo sensor wires shorting out. Hopefully you have checked the throttle cables and they are not too tight. A bit more far fetched is the engine ground circuit properly attached? If the main ground cable is off or diry it will cause electricity to follow alternate paths including the throttle cables which will arc inside the wire wound cable guide sheath. This will cause a sticking condition and not a smooth transition.

If you can find out which fuse controlls the cruise controll and if it doesn't affect other critical items you can pull the fuse and see if it continues to happen.

You should find the adjustment procedure for the throttle plate and make sure it's where it should be along with the idle air bleed screw usually about 3 complete turns off it's seat.

Well I have tried playing with all of the cables that I could and nothing appears to be working. I dont know what you mean by the vacuum sources being rerouted, but I havent touched any vacuum source, aside from the nipple on the intake mani that the BOV is attached to, recently.

Now it's my turn to ask what you mean by the cables not working??? You press on the accelerator pedal, the cable is going to move and the throttle plate WILL open.

In as much as you had that vacuum hose off I'd make sure it isn't cracked at the fitting or any place else.

You must find out why the throttle plate is being held open, once that is corrected then make cable adjustments. They must _not_ be responsible for the throttle being held open at idle. If there is any doubt disconnect them when setting the throttle stops. I've not read of the shaft getting bent or worn as a common problem though this could be a source if that condition exists. If someone has jammed a metal tool inside and let the shaft slam shut it could bend any part. With the throttle body off the manifold a flashlight from the back side will do a good job of finding out if there is something bent. If it has been bent your best bet is to find a good used one as a replacment. You can spend hours trying to fix one of these and I don't recommend it for shade tree mechanics.
