Hi,

I seem to be having my share of problems recently.. so here is my new one. When i drive my car normal (underboost) i hear nothing at all.. just the normal tone of my exhaust and the rattle of my windows from the stiffy motor mounts.

Anywho, when I get goin and jump into boost, i hear a slight, but consitent rattle/ticking sound.. but not like metal on metal(pistons, lifters, etc).. actually seems to be from my turbo.. cause as i increase engine RPM's, it gets louder with the more boost and more RPM's. I am only running 15psi on my car, always have.. i run the stock injectors and stock fuel pump. I was thinking the problem might be fuel related but i wasn't sure.

Can anyone help me to know what this rattle is? If so, how do i fix it?

Thanx in advanced!

I just drove a TSi AWD AT home the other night- a 20 mile drive. The turbo went out, and we could hear the rattle as well. Only thing though was that we could hear the rattle at idle. I dont know if this helps, but listen while its idling see if you can hear it.

later

Pull off the turbo inlet pipe and check the turbo for shaft play. That noise is probably the compressor wheel hitting the housing.

well.. i checked the turbo.. little to non shaft play.. but when i was having my friend, he owns a local shop, check it out.. we hit boost 1 time and i looked down and my car was gettin hot and quik.

We got it back to the shop (only a half block away) right as it was reaching the H and turn her off. Pop the hood, let it cool and noticed a light brown milky looking fluid in my radiator overflow tank.. smells like oil.. yep you guessed it.. blown head gasket... great.

ouch...dont scare me dude, I heard something very similar today coming from my turbo when I floored my car in first this morn. but only one time and in first. i had my radio off and all, so im sure i heard it.

Crap, that makes no sense though...what was the noise you heard that started this thread? knock? detonation? When one of my turbo's died the water was tainted with oil as well, but it didnt overheat.

i was told by my friend it was detonation... but the water is milky and stinks of oil.. my headgasket went out.. detonation is just a bonus. grr
