Sometimes when I go to start my car in the morning it wont start it just cranks for a while then I keep trying every few seconds and it will finally starts about 5-10 minutes later. Also it wont do it every morning. If i wait an hour it will start right up. What do you guys thinkit could be???
Battery, coil pack, something with the gas (like condensation), starter:confused:

hmmm, Fuel Filter? Replace that. When was the last time you did a tune up? my 87 LXI Accord its hard to start in the morning. I think it has something to do with the Oil, Cause it cranks and cranks till the oil light Goes of when Cranking, then itle start right up. Did a tune up a week ago, and it still does that.

From what I've experienced, don't crank a fuel-injected motor longer than 4 seconds when starting. It's become a baseless superstition for me, but for reasons I've never tried to determine, it works. And keep away from the gas pedal, let the electrical fairies deal with it.

OK well now im thinking its not fuel its the spark. The reason why is one day I went to start it and it was just cranking and cranking then i hooked up a battery charger and set it to the instant charge/start and it started right up. So im thinking its loosing power when it sits there cold. Now me question is what do i do/test? sorry for being such a newb.

UPDATE:: went to shucks to have my battery tested and they said that the battery was fine, so I went to the place I bought my battery from and they also tested it and said it was fine but when he hooked up a multi meter to the battery it showed about 13.7 volts and when I reved it, it only went up to about 13.9 volts and he said it should be around 14.2. He said that the alternator was not charging fully so this was my problem. So before i go out and spend 200 for an alternator does this sound right???

if your alternator wasn't working right, your battery would be dead in 10 miles or less. Replace the fuel filter first & see what happens-don't forget to depressurize the fuel lines first by pulling the fuel pump fuse or disconnecting the fuel pump wiring connector & then running the motor until it dies.-sludge inside the filter w/turn into solid rock when it gets cold & block fuel flow. If this doesn't help &/or you can smell gas when it won't start, you're not getting spark & you might have a sticky relay or breaker on the ecu board--had the ecu caps ever required replacement in the past? when the caps are bad, This can cause the ecu ignition breaker to overheat & partially melt, it's the breaker that's chattering on & off continously when the caps are bad.

well i did replace the fuel filter and also the alternator (it was going bad , you can see a difference when you hook up a multi meter now, it goes up to about 14.14 now on the revs)but it still doesnt start on a cold morning and as for ECU caps isnt that a 4G63 thing? remeber i am a 2gnt (420a). So anymore ideas???

Check the plugs, cap, ect. I found some black sludge in my #1 hole on the dist. and changes the plugs, wires, ect. and it was fine. by the by your voltage is fine there is no prob. with ure alternator/battery/ect. mine runs like that every day with no prob.(stereo ect). Look at your plugs and find the problem there I beleive.

Reckon I don't know if the newer dsms have electrolytic caps or not--it would be reassuring to find out they make things a little better as time goes on.
In simple terms, 2 things are needed to make the motor run, fuel & spark.
Usually, cold start devices have to do with increasing the idle speed & sometimes they utilise electrical heating devices that are only on for a short time. fast idle is usually is accomplished by a throttle bypass valve that lets more air get past the throttle-plate & these devices have more to do with keeping a cold motor running after it's started, so these probably don't apply in your case.
Your either not getting spark( I bet you are) or you're not getting fuel (can you smell gas when it won't start?). You might have gotten some bad gas or your fuel pump isn't working when it's cold--a common thing in less than new electric motors everywhere--they have friction bearings that are lubricated for life, HA!-the bearings get gunked up after awhile & cold gunk prevents the motor from starting--ever have an old electric fan that you had to push-start after you turned it on?(can you hear the pump whirring when you turn the key to acc. without hitting the starter-if you can then you know for sure it's working- even if you hear nothing it might still be working, but becomes suspect. if you get close to the pump when the car is running-can you hear it whining--it should not ). Also , a fuel pump usually has it's own fuse in the fuseblock & fuel pump relay somewhere on the car. Most of these rice-rockets have submergible pumps inside the gas tank that have strainer sediment filter screens attached to the pump & that can become clogged--but some rice-rockets have a seperate sediment filter in the fuel line outside the gas tank--check your manual or 1000faq to see what you have. You could also hook up a pressure guage to your fuel lines & actually measure the fuel pressure, but I never had to do that because of all the clues listed above.
hope this helps, or reply with more clues
