My entire oil filter housing is wet with oil and I'm positive that my filter is tight. It has been this way the last 3 times that I changed my oil. What could be causing this, what seals or gaskets are down there that I could check/replace? Its' wet by the oil sending unit and even the wire that runs the oil guage is wet. Loses about a 1/2 quart per month. Thanks....

-The oil filter is on tight but the oil filter stud (oil filter screw on to) could be loose, oil leak out between the stainless steel oil cooler next to the oil filter.

Thanks for the info guys!!! I found the torque specs for that metal shaft that the oil filter screws onto. It's 31 ft. lbs. If I torque it correctly it shouldn't crush anything should it. Also would it be wise to put some lock tight on the threads when putting it all back together? I don't even know if this is where my leak is coming from but it sounds about right to me. Thanks again

There is also a small possibility that the oil filter bracket could be cracked, I did it to mine because a very small piece of debris got under the bracket when I torqued it down. They aren't that hard to crack.
