 My dash lights/gauge cluster backlights aren't working anymore! The high beam indicator still works, turn signal indicators still work, check engine and all other service lights work, except for my gas, temp, speed, and tach. I was doing some wiring to some strobes and neons. I had them connected to the dimmer of the dash lights and i blew something. All the fuses in the box under the steering wheel next to the pedals are fine. Did i blow something else, or the lights themselves? Anyone help please? I cannot see how fast i'm going at night!

INside the engine bay,
the fuse block there.
there is a 10 amp fuse labeled TAIL.

ill bet 20, its blown.

my tail lights are working though? its only the dash and console back lighting that isnt working. turn signals, dome, etc work but not spedometer or any other orange_colored light.

ill check that fuse though.

isnt it frustrating to not have ur interior lights working? im having the same problem but only my dashlights are out except for the windshield wiper, and a/c lights.

as for a 1g, the problem is overloading the dimmer circuit, and it pulls the fuse labeled tail.

i did the same thing hooking up my boost guage lights

i'm having this same problem but the fuses are all ok. only the radio and the gauge lights not working. would if be the dimmer switch? how do i remove the dash btw to get at this?

edit: found how to remove dash here

still need to know if this would cause the problem tho

i have the exact same problem. so far ive narrowed it down to one of two things. in my case my wiring has been somewhat hacked up by the previous owner "fixing" things.

so either the wiring, or the dimmer switch. i just recently got a new dimmer switch from a 94, mine is a 91. if there is a difference someone please let me know..

in the case of removing your dimmer switch its quite simple. on the gauge cluster surround there are 6 screws holding it on. two under the bottom, two under the top edge (you can see if you look up at an angle through the steering wheel) and two more under a clip on cover to the right side. the thing with the lines going vertically.

there are 3 screws on the back that hold the 2 or 3 switches in (depending on if you have fog lights) and it clips out through there. careful not to break it though. you MUST remove the 3 screws on the back of the bezel or you'll break it.

let me know if that solves your problem in the end! send me a pm.

ill be testing mine if i ever the dang time and post the results.

i have somewhat of the same problem. my speedo, tach, oil press, boost, a/c controls, and all lighting is dead. checked the dimmer switch and it doesnt have any power so that COULD be the cause of no lighting but it doesnt explain why the rest doesnt work. i checked the pins where the cluster connects and have power on a few of them but the only thing that works is the hi beam light. no turn signals, hazards or anything else works. all fuses are good. i noticed on the wireing diagram that under the driver front kick there is a relay for the instument panel. could this be a problem? no clue where to go.

SOLVED

changed the dimmer and it fixed my problem. ive been doing a lot of reading on this and from what ive read i dont believe your dimmer switch has power. i believe it is just a POT that controls the resistance of the GROUND. change your dimmer i bet it'll work.

as for my other wiring.. time to solder and heat shrink the previous owners "fixing" of things. including masking tape removal from electronic parts.. wtf.. haha

ps i have an extra dimmer switch that is tested working as of 5 minutes ago. pm me if you want it. just make an offer im not too concerned with price but i need any $ i can get at the moment haha
