calgary,
yesterday my poweering steering belt snaped off. nothing else seems to be wrong with the steering system, im just wondering if puting on a new PWR steering belt is a job for me or the mechanic. (dont know my skill leval but i have installed a turbo and downpipe if this gives any reference) it looks like i would have to remove the water pump belt to get the PWR steering belt in behind it, is this correct?

That is a pretty easy job. You are going to have to remove the alternator, waterpump belt though. You will have to losen your alternator to get the belt off. There are 2 bolts. One is on the side towards the engine up above the oil filter. You will need to get under the car to losen it. THe other is on the oposite side of the alternator and you should be able to reach down and get it with and open end wrench. Loosen those two bolts and pull up on the alternator. You should be able to get the belt off.

To put the PS belt on you will have to losen 3 bolts on the PS pump. There is one on the left side near the exhaust manifold and two on the oposite side towards the top and the bottom. There are two holes in the PS pump pulley so you can losen the bolts. When you have them all loose just pull up on the PS pump like you did on the alternator and it should be loose. Put the PS belt on first and just push down on the pump so the belt is taught and tighten the 3 bolts. You can then put your alternator, waterpump belt back on. Tightening the alternator is a little tricky. THere is a tensioner bolt on top of the alternator that you will have to tighten in order to get the belt tight. Once you get it, tighten the 2 bolts and you should be good to go.

If my instructions are foggy or you just flat out dont understand anything I said PM me and I will help you out.

i replaced them 2 months ago so i think there all fine, but i had some one install my struts so im thinking that the guy may have cut the belt to bring me back for more business. i think im just paranoid but ya. ill check the balancer while im at it. thanks...
