The filter DOES go in the airbox on a stock DSM, correct? Just making sure, because I installed the K&N FIPK today and my airbox was empty!

Yeah, it's supposed to lie in there diagonally. Fairly big rectangular thing, goes in there where you had to pull the bolts to get the airbox out.

Don't panic, if they weren't running the Baja 1000 or the like, street cars don't see all that much dirt.

That's what I thought, just making sure I'm not crazy ;) Now who is cheap enough to just remove the filter when it got dirty instead of replacing it :(

If you ever figure out the mental "workings" of car owners, you'll find the key to millions of dollars. I mean, an air filter costs all of ten bucks, who can afford that compared to the minor risk of inhaling a small bird through the turbine? I don't know that in all my wrenching years, other than on farm trucks, that I've ever seen an air filter that just _couldnt'_ be put back in. In any kind of reasonable driving, modern air filters are big enough to go a decade or more. But it's ten bucks, y'know.

Then again, scads of people here are throwing away Mobil 1 and other premium oils at 3K (and earlier), and there's no talking them out of it.
