Hey hows it going guys? well just purchased my new to me dsm and its the SH*T besides the fact that on decel it stalls. i am forced to feather the gas as im slowing down to keep it from doing so, after i feather it for a few minutes it will idle on its own and hold it until i put a load on the engine again. other then that drives normally. the previous owner warned me of this but said it was simply because the evo 8 maf was pulling in to much air on decel which didnt make much sense to me. would i have more luck switching to a maft setup? and getting it retuned or is there something/somewhere u guys can lead me to fixin this issue..the car is currently runing a dsmlink but currently i dont have a laptop with the software loaded to log it myself. thanks for the help if any is provided . any tristate dsmers around that want to take a look pm me ..peace

My first guess would be the maf you're on now. First you need to get a laptop so you can look at what the car is doing. You can check to see if the o2 sensor is cycling right at idle. Is there anything blocked off at your throttle body? Is the isc and fiav still connected?

as far as i know everything is still connected , like i said i didnt get the dsmlink software from the previous owner just yet and i dont have a laptop so i cant check if the o2 is cycling right. and as far as the throttle body i dont believe anything is blocking it off but i do believe it is ported if that would even affect it

I think gstclipse meant is the isc, fiav, or egr blocked off?

I had stalling problem few years back due to O2 sensor problem, but only happened when I push the clutch before stopping or waiting at a traffic light when in neutral. I learn quick on how to step on the brake pedal and feather the gas at the same time when approaching a stop sign or traffic light.

By blocking off I mean are there still coolant lines connected to the throttle body? Lots of people block the lines so they think by no coolant going to the throttle body the intake air temps will be lower but really that does next to nothing. You can block the lines whenever you block the fiav (fast idle air valve) in the throttle body. The purpose of the fiav is when you first start the car it will make the idle slightly higher in an attempt to warm the car up faster. These valves are known to go bad and in certain circumstances cause idle surge and stalling (inherently related).

The evo maf is still seeming to fit as a culprit however. I'm not very familiar with that maf, but in regards to your statement about going maft, I think that would be more trouble than its worth. You would have to get a translator and gm maf so thats at least ~230. Then get the car set up with it, and mafts are known to be very finiky to tune with.

simleman1 - sounds very similar to the problem you had i too quickly learned to side step the brake and gas i consider myself a pro at this point. happens when i get into neutral as well and when i try to idle at a light, cold starts...what exactly was your issue simpleman1

gsteclipse69- ok i know what you mean now and i think your right they are blocked off ill see if i can load a picture to show you my throttle body. but if your talking about what im talking about its the two on the top, also looked like two in front of the tb are blocked as well. my idle is pretty eratic i thought it was because of the cams. my idle is anywhere from 900 - 2000 most of the time stays inbetween 1600 and 2000

thanks for all your help guys its appreciated
