I have a 97 gs-t with about 70,000 miles on it. Recently, large amounts of smoke have been coming from my exhaust, i am also going through large amounts of oil. The problem is constant, and consistent. I was told by a friend of the family that he is certtain that the turbo is shot. HE looked at the car and determined that because the aftermarket intercooler piping that the prevcious owner installed was not tightly bound to the turbo, a buildup of oil began to develop. On top of that he said there is too much play in the shatf of the turbo. Before i go ahead and replace the turbo i want to make sure this is the problem? If so, i see this as a good time to upgrade to a larger turbo. I was thinking a big 16g, any suggestions? What will this intail (is this strictly a bolt on thing, or do i need to do things such as tune the car or replace other parts?)? Because of a tight finincial situation i can barely afford to fix the car, so if i have to buy more than the install kit, it will not be feasible for me. Thank you for your help!!
