could a hacked MAF cause me to fail smog??

ok i have tried to get my talon smogged twice now and still i haven't passed, i know the guy before me has hacked the MAF so im wondering if this could be the reason.

the part im having trouble with is my hydrocarbons at idle. because at 2400rpms it goes away and checks good.

any info about smog would be helpful too.

Yes it could. Hacking the maf changes airflow readings. Putting the honeycombs back in and driving for a while might let you pass smog if everything else is ok.
