I have a 95 GSX w/a big 16g, HKS SSQV, Tein cat back, and a K&N. My problem is that I have to floor it to even get it to move and it is VERY VERY slow. then once it reaches about 3200rpms it sounds like all of the boost is running out. ive tried to figure out whats going wrong but cant. I just recently replaced the transistor cause it was bad, cyl 2 & 3 werent firing. can anyone help? thanks, Trey.

check for boost leak and exhaust leaks while your at it. Personally I'd do a compression test but thats just ### they tend to make me feel better anytime I'm dreading there is something wrong with the motor. Does it feel electrical or mechanical and is it throwing a cel?

Dave

Its probably a boost leak. Is there black soot shooting from the muffler? You need to check all of your intake/intercooler/turbo piping and couplers for cracks and leaks. Leaks are a major symptom of what you are describing.

There are also some ignition related symptoms that are similar to what you describe as well, when you say "you" replaced the transistor, do you mean "you" personally did it, or had a shop do it? Double check your plugs, plug wires, and plug wire order....

it feels mechanical. no cel. somethimes theres black soot, most of the time its blue smoke. i dont know if the turbo also needs to be replaced. i myself replaced to transistor. wires, plugs and firing order are all good. ive triple checked all of that. could timing cause this or part of this? ive replaced the timing belt and timed it. but i havent rechecked it.

It sounds to me like its something mechanically, blue smoke it never good, hopefully thats your turbo gone bad though, and not your internals.

did you get the boost leak test done yet? That could very well answer most of your questions and solve your problems...except for the blue smoke. If it is definitely blue and not grey or black then your looking at blown turbo (if it does it under boost) or valve stem seals (if it does it under high vac).

Dave

Do a compression test too...takes 20 minutes and lets ya know if your in serious trouble or just a little

I had that happen to me, it was my intercooler pipe that popped off but it was at night so I couldn't tell if it was smoking or not. Do a boost leak test though definitely.

Do you hear a different kind of whining sound when attempting to boost? That, accompanied with the blue smoke problem are usually signs of a blown turbo. Do you have a boost gauge? If so, what is it reading while your driving/WOT? Like everyone else said, a boost leak test is a good starting point. If you don't have one, now's the perfect time to make one, you're going to need it plenty of times in the future as well.

I got the boost leak fixed. my intake pipe was coming loose. now i still have a problem with it not going. i have to floor it, once it reaches 4k it starts movin ok. but below that it just wont go. ive come to the conclusion that the turbo is bad. smokes pretty bad under boost but only slightly at idle. it also idles kinda rough. when i put it in to drive or reverse the rpms drop down pretty low. any ideas? tryin to get it ready to be sold. i want it to run top notch.

I think in your case in my opinion if the car does any kind of smoking in a blue shade of any kind is a blown turbo. Is it so bad that you cant see the cars behind you? because that means that there is oil making its way into the exhaus(i know obviously) only because i had a turbo do the same thing once. good luck with fixin it.when you figure out the problem let us know

checked the timing, its good. plugs and wires are brand new.the coils are good. the car has started to smoke more. what else could it be? could the turbo make the car do this? the intake pipe and the intercooler have alot of oil in them. im at a loss. any1 have anymore ideas?

Most likely a blown turbo if you have "a lot" of oil in the intake, pop it off again and check for shaft play(easiest way to tell if your turbo blew). Also, how have you determined you fixed the boost leak?Do you have an after market boost gauge? Because the in-dash one is just the ECU's best guess as to what boost you are making. And will show your in boost even with a massive boost leak or blown turbo.

i have a autometer boost gauge. i did a boost leak test. im going to put a new turbo on right now. wish me luck.

it has no side to side shaft play. but it has alot of in/out play. yeh it does sound kinda funny when boosting. im putting another 16g on it right now to see if it helps.

it doesnt really whine it sounds more like a hum/moan or a low growl.very odd. i had a guy put the 16g on b/c i dint have time to do it. and when i took the turbo off. i noticed that the bov line was tee'd off to the wastegate accuator, and the wastegate solenoid only had the top line that goes to the air filter hooked up. the bottom line is supposed to go to the wastegate accuator isnt it? could this cause a problem? o and the line that goes to the air filter wasnt plugged in to the filter piping it was just hanging off the solenoid.when i pulled the heat shield off i saw that the turbo was only being held on by the front two bolts. one wasnt tightend at all, wasnt even threaded. and the other was only partialy on. so now i have to go back over everything to check it all up.
