What happened:

2 nights ago I was with my GF just regularly driving down the street and all of a sudden I got this harsh jerking from the car at first I thought it was my injectors or spark so I pulled over and took a look, nothing was odd or loose and FPR was reading fine. I then got back in the car and when reversing nothing happened and then shifted in 1st and started to drive off, when I tired to drive off I heard a loud nasty noise like something was dragging on the freaking ground and the wheels or brakes or something were locking up stopping the car from going anywhere and then I thought it was just forward since I reversed out the parking spot fine then tired it and got even a louder sound and a quicker stop. I got pissed turned the car off then pushed the car into a parking spot, looked under the car and nothing was hanging that I could see but the exhaust that was on it and it was strapped down fully. I called everyone I knew... I never had this issue with a car before.... I sat for maybe 20mins at a freaking gas station then gf was getting upset and I couldn't reach anyone. So I told her to get back and went to start the car and popped the clutch and hit the gas all the way down and got it on the road, AND IT DROVE FINE! I did notice that the clutch felt diff tho, like lighter, more like stock. I came back got her then drove it back home with no problems and we used her car the rest of the night. Then this morning came and went to get in the car, cranked fine, reversed out fine. then I didn't even get 30 yards in 1st-2nd and it started doing it. Well I said #### it and hoped it would stop like before, turned the car off sat for a few then cranked it and for only 3mins everything was fine and hit around 50mph and it felt like the wheels completely locked up and in the cold weather you could see the tire smoke coming off the wheels and almost sent the car into a spin if I didn't counter steer it to shit. After cursing up a storm, I drove it back to my house not even getting out the sub-devision and parked it and called out sick.

I need this car fixed, right now it is my only ride to work and I have to drive on highway and far to get and dont turst this thing out on the highway and could be very dangerous!!

PLEASE!!!

Last mods were ... everything basically, I did it all at once mostly. And it to strong of jerks and locking to be rubbing. I was thinking the transfer case as well, but then again I don't know. I would hate to do all that work and it be not it.... anything else guys? Thanks for the replys all! Keep them coming, need this fixed!!

LOOK AT YOUR T CASE. This is not going to be another thread of 13412 replies and not one feedback of what you havent checked.

how is the clutch? my friend had a similar problem when he shifted. His pressure plate was shot and he didn't have any transmission fluid in his transmission. This was a front wheel drive car. The car would lunge forward a times. or. maybe your t-case, transmission, or rear differential is running dry on fluid. I would drain its fluid and fill it up again.

If all four wheels are locking up it would almost have to be the t-case. Take it out and check the fluid level. They are notorious for leaking seals and can run dry very easily. My 90 did something similar but didn't lock the wheels up but the t-case was bone dry. It doesn't sound like your having trouble getting it into gear. If that was the case I was going to say check the nut behind the trans cover to see if had backed off. If your t-case if fine then I would check that nut and maybe the TOB or rear end. Whatever you do don't try dumping the clutch again to get it moving. If the t-case is locked up and you do this again you could destroy it and possibly damage other drivetrain parts too.

I would have to agree on the transfer case..check the fluid levels, i wouldnt be surprised if it was bone dry. The yolk's wear out and tend to leak oil from the rear of the t case. Dont keep driving it at all. My buddy is a retard and kept letting his lock up and it twisted the output shaft on the tranny. Just some food for thought. And if it is the t case thats bad, i have a perfectly good one you can get off me for cheap.

I jacked it up and but I can't tell what's what under there. I have never done AWD work in my life, mostly rwd rotarys is my thing... So when I got under there with ome ghetto jacks I did see there was fresh coolant all over by it, might of been from me, no idea but I turned on the car and seen add coolant light was on, but then check the coolant and it was full still from when I changed it a week ago... No idea...

I seen nothing leaking or dryed anywhere on the tranny or transfer case.

Just going to get a shop to look at it i guess.... :/ bye bye money...

pull the drain plug and see if any fluid comes out.

so you just pull it and it's not a bolt plug? Nice to know.

Yeah but to fill it again is a pita with it still on the car. Check out http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html under the drivetrain section for removal and installation help. It's not hard at all to pull it out and look it over. I take mine out with every oil change just to check it.

Could you tell if it was all the wheels that locked or just the front or rear?

If it is the transfer case, only the rear wheels lock. If he could countersteer, evidently the front wheels didnt lock.

No, it is a bolt style plug in the bottom of the transfer case. If I remember correctly, a 15/16" socket will fit it.
