I recently bought a 95 gsx and had an alpine cd player layin around. I installed the radio CDM-7871 to be exact. It worked fine for about 2 weeks and then the lights for the guages go out. Replace the fuse and keep going. Not an hour later the same fuse blows. I test this out for a while. Unplug the radio and the fuse hasn't blown yet. Is it the radio? Or is it the wiring from the car? My car didn't have a ground so i grounded mine to a bolt behind where the radio goes. Its a solid ground and should be fine but i thought i should mention that. Any input on this subject would be appreciated.

Did you cut and splice the cd player in or did you get a harness so you could plug it in?

I doubt it's anything internal in the CD player. Sounds more a long the lines of wiring. Somethings drawing to much power.

I know this is really stupid to ask but are you using the right amp fuse?

I bought a wiring harness. Simple and easy installation for the harness. There was no ground so i grounded it myself. I am also running subs. The amps fuses are all 25's, there are 3 of them, and are not blown. The power wire for the subs has a fuse block and the fuse for that isn't blown either. The radio doesn't have a fuse that i know of. Meaning there is no fuse on the back of the radio. So im lost on on whats wrong. I have some knowledge of "speaker stuff". I've installed many peoples radios and this is the first time i've seen anything like this. You could probably rule out newbie reasons but then again it probably is something small and miniscule.

what part of the interior did you ground it to? Sometimes if you ground to a part that circles into the rest of the dash, it can pop your dash light fuse that also kills your tails... it happened to my 92 a few times.... just move the ground to something....ANTHING else and see what happens.... I just ended up running a ground wire down to the floor

Well i was screwing around taking out my headliner to get that all fixed up and when i was taking out the door ajar lights (The ones on the ceiling that come on when the door is open) i must have touched an open wire to the metal and blew the fuse. The Radio also went out. Can someone let me in on the secret of which fuse it is. Thanks:dsm:

this is straight from the owners manual inside your engine bay the fuse box #17 10A is red for the radio, if you have the 2.4 litter its going to be the last one on the bottom from the left, if you have the 2.0 litter engine is going to be the first one on the top on the right hand side of the fuse box, and for the lights on the roof that turn on when you open the car is going to be in position 18 same color red 10A and it will be right next to the one for the radio for the 2.0 litter right under the one above ^^^ or if you have the 2.4 litter above the # 17 in any case they will be by themselves 2 red fuses if those are the two you’re looking for hope this helped out and you can fix them.:thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Before I bought my car the previous owner had a Pioneer head unit & upgraded speakers in the car. After I bought it he took the speakers he had in it and put stock speakers back in but left me the Pioneer head unit. All the stock speakers were blown. So today i got 4 Pioneer speakers for my car. I took the radio out and saw that the radio wiring harness was a mess, so i took it all apart and neatly redid it. After i was done tested the system out and sounded awesome but 1 problem, i was left over with TWO wires from the factory wiring harness.
  • Headlight Illumination - Green/White stripe wire
  • Light Dimmer - Black/Yellow stripe wire
I read somewhere on this forum that you can hook up the Black/Yellow wire to ground and the dimming lights will work, well i tried that and it didn't work. SO WHERE DO I WIRE THESE 2 WIRES TOO ?

Here is what i got from a wiring diagram online.

Constant 12 volt- Red/Black stripe

you don't hook them up to anything. tape them up. unless you're radio has a dimmer or illumination wire you just tape them off and DO NOT use them. by hooking them up to ground you cooked the fuse. so start digging. I'm not sure which one you fried but look @ the lower fuse box and under the hood. It should be the IOD Illumination or something that says Illumination on it.

The Illumination and the dimmer both have 12+ current running through it. The dimmer just gets voltage varied on it to dim the lights. Make sense?

Don't ground those out. You'll blow fuses. Just tape them and let them hang.

So my friend was messing around with my ignition coil the other day, and there is one wire on it that is disconnected. I do not know if that wire is supposed to be connected or not, but nevertheless, it just sits there harmless (I still have spark.) Anyways my friend grounded that wire, causing a big spark and blowing the ignition fuse. The fuse has since been replaced, and the car starts (barely), and then dies unless you give it gas. Anyways after that wire was grounded all my interior lights went out. All the fuses are still good, inside and out. The headlights, hi-beams, and gauge lights work, but nothing else does. No radio, no dome light, nothing. Any idea what happened? I'm thinking my alternator may be the culprit of my starting problems, and possibly the lighting as well. Any suggestions?

Could it be a blown relay or something? All the fuses checked out, unless one is malfunctioning without actually having broken the link in there.
