No start, need feedback on test results

Hey guys my 1990 mitsubishi eclipse gsx isnt starting. ive never actually seen it running ever.

It injects fuel but has NO Spark on any of the spark plugs.

Things i have checked and work
ECU (light comes on for 5 secs then disappears that means its good)
Fuses (all good checked with multimeter)
Starter
Ignition coil pack (primary is .9 ohms just within range secondary was 13,000 ohms good according to haynes)


Things that dont work
Camshaft Postion Sensor (2 of the wires are frayed apart on the connector will resodder them) I got the required 5 volts on connector 1 i got 12 volts on connector 3 and the ground circut has 30 ohms of resisitance (which means it has continunity)

Question 1

In the Haynes manual it says "if the camshaft postion sensor circuit tests check out OK replace the part with a new one" Does this mean i have to replace my CAS because i got the correct measurements??? Also is this CAS useable?

I did the tests required by the haynes manual and i got resisitance when i didnt have voltage on tab 6 and 3 which means cylinders 2 and 3 wont work for spark. I have a new one on the way.

Question 2
While i have parts in the mail is there any other checks i can do or anything i am missing that could be causing no spark on any of the cylinders?

I have to get my new cylinder head resurfaced and then i will be able to put my timing belt back on and try to start the car again.
 
Ya i am having real similar problems with my 1991 talon tsi right now. If anyone knows that would help out two of us! :thumb:
 
I would either fix your wires on the CAS and try again or test it with a known good CAS from a buddy/shop. I just had this problem, 2 of the 4 wires on my CAS were broke off right at the sensor. I had zero spark on all 4 but I had fuel. Snagged one from a junkyard and I was all set. Good luck.
 
ok i am fixing the wires as we speak they should be good soon, i have just had bad luck with these CAS's i bought one on ebay but the wires are all frayed, i got one from a junkyard but the connector is all screwed up for the white wire so that one doesnt work (i get 5 volts at harness side and then no volts at the connector (backprobing) so that one is dead to) i appreciate anyone elses suggestions on what they think it could be that is causing me to not get spark
 
when installing new cas, don't forget to set base ignition timing. if that's the the problem, it's easy to jump for joy and forget to do it...


powerflow goes backwards goes something like this:

plugs <->wires<->coil<->transistors<->ecu (and wires inbetween)

then the ECU uses: cas

seeing as you get NO spark, i'd say ECU or CAS... bad CKP (crank position sensor) will cause a no-start.

bad coolant temp sensor will cause a no-start too, but i've never been taught why (as far as if the fuel doesn't shoot, or the spark, not sure what ECU uses it for, and it's ###### different in different cars anyways). test it, but i doubt it's the case....

thing's i'd do:

1.check reference voltage at all the major parts. (cas and coil pack) i doubt it's the problem, but you'd be suprised. my ECU fried in my car when I 1st got it, and i tested EVERYTHING then stumbled upon the fact that all of my 12V reference wires were putting out 9V, replaced ECU and car worked fine.

2. check coolant temp sensor.

3. replace CAS.

let us know after the CAS is replaced and we can work from there....not much left to tell ya till that's taken care of.
