hey guys bad day for my car. i posted yesterday about a hard pull to the right and the tires screaming. Well i got towed home last night. after work today i pulled the driver side tire off and the axle came out in 2 pieces. yes 2 pieces. It tore the cv boot off of the shaft. ok I took the pieces to autozone and got a new axle. install new axle and go for a test drive. halfway out of the driveway same problem.Back it back into the driveway with my dad looking at the tire. He saw the tire moving left to right, not good. Jacked the car up and push the a-arm and it moves alot. I look closer and this is what i see.

The bolt that attaches the a-arm to this broken piece is gone

if i put a bolt back in where it goes is this still a major problem?

Ouch. I can't tell WTF that is from the picture, but it looks like it needs to be fixed now and I'd wager that simply putting a bolt back in there won't do sh*t, especially if that piece is broken in half - which from the looks of the pic, it is. Find out what that peice is, and whether or not you can replace it along with the level of difficulty in doing so.

Later,

Matt

YES - I keep thinking no, it CAN"T BE , must be an A ARM or something - but....?

HOT DAMN, we've found something ELSE that breaks on a DSM~! - Another great MILESTONE in DSM history!!

I've seen this before in the early stages. A buddy of mine went to have his AWD laser aligned and the shop would not do the alignment because there was a crack in the subframe. He had the crack welded and he hasn't had a problem with it yet. I went home and immediately looked at mine and was happy to see it was in good condidtion.

As for the OP. From what I can tell it looks like your subframe has broken. You will need to drop it out of the car and replace it as a unit. It looks beyond repair. Do you have anymore pics?

Shit, I'm glad I didn't find that when I pulled my axle out in two pieces.

How in the hell would that get such a large crack in it is what I want to know???

I don't know about fixing it... maybe getting it welded? but I personally would replace it.
