I had my engine rebuilt because I had a pinging/knocking noise. I replaced everything on the block (rod bearings, pistons, piston rings, etc.) and had the head resurfaced and checked. I had my car back for two days and it started pinging/knocking again. It sounds like its coming from #1, right next to the timing. Anyone have an idea of whats going on?

Describe more, is it at idle? 25-35mph? 35mph+, Does it go away as the engine heats up?. Be more descriptive.

It does do it at idle. Mainly gets louder when its between 2k and 3k RPMs. Its a quick pinging noise. When the car sits for a while, it wont do it, but eventually it does when I start to drive it. So you could say it does it when it heats up.

could be your timing is too retarded and makes the knocking.
OR did you reuse your valve springs? did you test them when you rebuilt it? im thinking one of your springs is going out.

i didnt have my head rebuilt, only the block. A shop told me that the knocking noise was my rod bearings. So I rebuilt the block because I had nothing else better to do. The noise sounds like its coming from the timing... I used the same parts in the head. The funny thing is the car worked good for a couple of days than started making that pinging sound again.
