I have a 92 Eclipse w/ 2.0 Non Turbo, On the drivers side of the fuel rail is a 1/2" return line and a 1/4" vacuum line, does anyone know where the vacuum likne goes ? It's about 8" long and I can't find where it goes. Iv'e been having a surging problem and was hoping this was it, Today I was working on the air conditionar and the car was ideling for around 15 to 20 minutes perfectly then it spit and sputtered then died, there was still 55 lbs. pressure on the fuel gauge, I turned it over and had no spark, waited around 2 minutes and it started right up. There are no codes to read the engine light only comes on for a second when it starts dieing.
 
The problem with it dying sounds like leaking capacitors on your ecu. Take it out, remove the cover, and see if the circuit board smells like fish. Also check for a brownish crust around the capacitors.

Normally the vacuum line gors from the FPR reference port to the fuel pressure solenoid on the firewall and from there to the port on the intake manifold. You can run the hose to the manifold directly but you lose the assistance the FPS provides on hot starts. On an NA car having the vacuum line to the FPR disconnected will cause the car to run rich since the manifold vacuum can't lower the fuel pressure but on a turbo car it will cause the car to run dangerously lean under boost.
In both cases if can also cause a big vacuum/boost leak if the hose to the manifold is open.
