I dont know what the hell is going on.

So.. I finally got my rear diff in the car and put DSMLink back in it. I didnt have to touch a damned thing electrical except the negitive battery cable and the connections for the ECU. I plug in the new ECU and start the car up. Car runs fine. I check my fuel pressure, its dead on. I smoke a cig while I wait for the car to warm up. Ok, its idling a little high as it did before but thats ok, that can be taken care of later.

Car warms up and settles at 1100 rpm, it has idled high since my ISC was replaced. I continue to let the car idle for another 5 minutes and jump in, I notice the car is idling at 12.5 A/F. I am thinking that kind of weird, get out and check the fuel pressure, its fine, jump back in the car, back it up to take it for a drive around the block. As I start to get out of the driveway, which took a bit of trying as I am no longer used to this race clutch the car stalls as I over rev it a little ( 3k rpms ). I notice a puff of black smoke out the tail pipe.

I go to start the car and nothing. I push it back into the drive way and attempt to start it and still nothing. I check for fuel by activating the pump, it works, I check and I still have pressure but car wont start, I think I might have run out of gas.

I run down to the gas station and get 5 gallons of gas and put it in the car, go to start it and nothing, the battery is drained. I say F it and go to my friends to pick up some cash.

I come home a couple hours later, jump into the car and Vrooom! it starts, idles about 1100 RPMs and all seems fine, except its still at 12.5 A/F. I let it idle for about 10 minutes and go to rev it, more black smoke puffs out the tail ( the only time I can see any of the exhaust ) and the car stumbles and dies. Now it wont start again, I think it has been flooded.

WTF is going on. It worked fine with the stock ECU and could be driven even with the 720's though it was rich and now it wont even stay idling after a small rev. I have some NGK8 plugs I am going to be replacing tomorrow but I dont think that is the only problem. I think it might be a ECU thing, Tom from DSMLink socketed it and I would figure if he saw anything wrong with it he would have informed me.

Modifications are as follows

97 GSX: 720's, Aeromotive AFPR, 272's, 1g TB, TD06H-20g, DSMLink, 3" Turbo Back N1, Dejon 3' Intake, AEM 6-1 WB, Clutchmasters S-4 Clutch, GReddy UICP & FMIC, 5 Speed swapped, Skunk2 Springs, RRE & Ingalls Camber kits, Tial 38mm WG, Punishment Mani/o2

Why was link out...Is it a new ECU? did you buy it used? have you put the stocker in and se if you had the same problem?

I sold DSMLink because I was going to go with AEM EMS but then decided to go back to DSMLink. The ECU should be good.

The ECU is used, the socketing and chip are new from TDorris at DSMLink. I am sure if there was anything wrong with the ECU he would have mentioned something.

Currently its raining otherwise I would try starting the car up with the stock ECU. I did have a short period of time to check over the car some more and my biss screw is gone, at least the head of it. I am thinking I might have a little boost leak which could be causing the rich condition. As soon as I get a chance when the rain stops, I am going to be plugging the screw hole to see if it is leaking and my rich condition disappears.

If i recall correctly, unless you have the memory board for the 2g, when power is disconnected, all your settings are lost and it reverts back to stock settings.

When you bought it, what injector size was the chip burned for? Do you have those same injectors still installed?

If you have larger injectors than what the chip was burned for, that would explain your rich condition.

Hope this helps

I had it burned for the 720's that I have in the car. The settings are the same as what I had before on DSMLink.

Yes it is. I was thinking about unplugging it to see if anything changes. I doubt that would have gone bad.

ok, ill check it and see if it is but wouldnt the air still be metered and in the system if it was open?

Thanks, thats something I didnt even think to check on.

Believe it or not, when my Eclipse was having the same problem, my BISS screw was the culprit. The idle went so low when the scew was out, that the car wouldn't stay running and I would see the puff of smoke out the back when it died. At least plug the hole and see what happens. It could have been a bad tune in conjunction with the BISS plug missing when this happened to me, but it's worth checking out.

ok.. here are some things I have discovered

1: Fuel pressure is not doing what it should. With the vac line on and off, its staying where it is. Its not dropping. I think that there must be a leak someplace and the extra fuel pressure has something to do with my problem.

2: DSMLink is not reading the coolant temp like it should. It is reading 40F and sometime blips to 92 or 102 and then a second later back to 40F. During that time I was watching the laptop and nothing else, the car was running hot as could be, I shut her down and turned on the fans to cool the engine off ASAP.

3: I cant find any small boost leaks. I sprayed while the car was running, if there was anything major then it would have showed up but nothing did. Last time I checked, before I put the car down for a trans change, I did a boost leak check and nothing was found so I doubt it would have cropped up with 20 miles on the car.

All sensors are connected. I disconnected the MAS and the car stumbled as it should, its working fine.

4: BoV is not staying open.

5: No air is leaking from the missing BISS head

I am thinking that the problem is either the thermostat and the temp gauge for the coolant. Ill pick up new ones tomorrow and throw them in and see if anything has changed. Perhaps the car isnt reading that its warm and dumping in tons of fuel which is causing my rich condition and the reason why the idle wont drop. I really doubt my water pump has gone out, it was replaced not long ago ( about 5k ago )but that very well could be a problem as well. I do not see any water running from the pump and the pully was spinning.
