I have CEL on thats a 1494 code.
I replaced the Leak detection pump all ready, and the light came back.
Dealer said to replace a roll over valve. Thing is I took the car there for another problem, and they tried to get me to spend about 1000 dollars total replacing a bunch of stuff.
Lucky I said no, because later I had poped my hood and found a kinked fuel line was my problem. So now I dont really trust the dealer to much.
They wanted like 350 bucks to change this roll over valve and hose.
I did a little checking and the part is only like 36 bucks and the hose for it is like 14 bucks, so thats a lot of money for labor. They didnt even say for sure that would fix the problem.
So jsut wondering if anyone knows for sure if this roll over valve and hose can cause the 1494 error code?

According to the DTC codes found here:

http://autorepair.about.com/cs/troubleshooting/l/bl_obd_main.htm

Code 1494: Leak Detection Pump Switch or Mechanical Fault (Chrysler, Jeep), which you've changed.

While running a search for "roll over valve" in the shop manual (either section) yields no results, I couldn't even tell you what it is or what it's for.

I sympathize with your dilemma as I know you've been dealing with it for a while.

What's the car doing other than throwing a code?

Oh yea, don't "bump" your threads, it's a good way to get them locked.

well it has had a number of issues, but it was used and I bought it cheap so I expected to deal with some things.
I normally try and replace something each pay check.
the car is running pretty good it seems, but that check engine thing bugs me.
I know sooner or later I am going to have to smog the car again, and I need to fix this problem. I dont mind replacing this valve as long as it will actually fix the problem.
The thing is I cant find any info anywhere about a 1494 code being set off by this part.
From what I understand it just has something to do with the gas tank to protect you if the car flips over. Far as I know there isnt a sensor on this thing.
parts are cheap its the labor to install it that is gonna kill me.
I guess if no one can tell me if it can be the cause of the problem then I'll just wind up having to pay and have it done and hope for the best

P1494 is a evaporative emission ventilation switch or mechanical fault

Basically, to check the evap system for leaks, a diaphram moves up and down and a solenoid switch turns on and off to act as a position sensor to verify amount of time it takes to pump up the system and how much it takes to maintain the system test pressure. The code is set when the solenoid which activates the diaphram is turned on, but the switch does not turn on and off. The switch is part of the leak detection pump on your vehicle and actually so is the vacuum solenoid, so if you replaced it the likelyhood of that being the problem is slimmer. The lines going to it from the plenum to the leak detection pump may be plugged. You could also have a wiring problem that prevents the PCM from seeing the signal from the switch, or even a bad PCM. I would be checking that the solenoid operates and passes vacuum, and that the switch is sending a signal.

Upselling, thats a dealership.

If the code could pop from a pressure problem, could this be as simple as a loose/faulty gas cap? Ive had CELs pop up from that (its an aftermarket cheap cap from when I bought the car). All it takes is tightening it, then put it through some drive cycles and its gone.

I'm away from my reference material, but I don't think that p1494 has anything to do with the leak. I believe it is simply "I'm trying to cycle the pump, but I don't see the pump going up or down". I will say that I haven't messed with a talon leak detection pump, but the system is the same as most every Chrysler leak pump system...

Gas cap should have no effect on this code. I can verify that on Monday.

hi, thanks for the replies.
we can actually rule out the gas cap, because I thoguht about that and bought a brand new one all ready.

absolute_DSM, no I didnt buy it at the dealer.
I bought the gas cap at Autozone I think.
