I searched but couldn't find the same problem, plus most phantom knock threads aren't ever solved, seems to be a lot of causes to pk. Well my problem, I think is going to be my a/c pulley. The a/c stopped working on day, and I heard a grinding sound coming from the engine, I knew that it has to be the a/c compressor. So to make things easy, I cut the belt. Well about a month later I start hearing rattling. I find out it's the a/c pulley. I was just going to remove it but it looks like it's going to be pretty hard to do. So I tried to magnum steel it so it won't move anymore. Only worked for a few hours ha. I got my logger in last week and made some pulls and i'm getting 43 counts of knock. Once I get to hwy speeds it goes away. Could this pulley be causing pk? It seems to rattle the most around 2-4k rpm. that's where the pk is... but sometimes it's there and sometimes it isn't.

follow-up

After investigating the a/c compressor, I found that the rattling noise I was hearing was a old starter bolt that I assumed lost a few months back. It was laying on the subframe and somehow had not fallen off in the course of 10,000 miles. However, I found that the engine vibration was still there, I just replaced the harmonic balancer and the knock is gone. For now anyway, this car seems to get my hopes up then shut me down a lot!

With regards to the A/C pulley I'd also like to know if this is a possibility for phantom knock, since my condenser had a fork lift accident.:notgood:
