hi, is it possible to reach the knock sensor without getting at it from under neath? I am under the impression from searches that it is on the block behind cyl. 2, but i cannot seem to reach it? Does anyone have any tips or suggestions as to the best way of reaching it?

There is a bracket that has three bolts, two on the intake and one on the block. This is the same bracket that has the vacuum lines running through it. If you remove this bracket then wiggle your arm down under the intake from the back side and you should be able to feel it.
You will need to use a small adjustable wrench and you might be able to brake it lose from the top, but it is much easier to drop the down pipe and go at it from the bottom. When you install a new one just tighten it hand tight and then just ad a little turn from the wrench.

I change mine without taking anything out or doing it from under the car....then again, my arms and hands are small enough to fit in there real tightly (cuts and bruises prove it, LOL).

Both pics show you where I put my hand and these pics were pretty tricky since I also took the pic, LOL.
In the last pic, I'm trying to show a referrence of where the knock sensor is. Putting my hand in there to change the sensor wasn't the hard part either, it was trying to get a small enough wrench in there to tighten the sensor down that was the hardest part of all to me.

Hope this helps a little.

If you don't want to go underneath the car, you can get to the knock sensor by removing the battery. Your best bet is to use a short adjustable wrench since you'll have little room to work with, but you'll only need to loosen it enough so you can remove it by hand. It may look like a PITA to get to, but it's not that difficult.
