ok guys just so i dont get flammed here, i search alot and havent been able to come up w/ an exact answer so i wanna post and make sure im exactly positive on the proper solution to my problem. i also have the vfaq and 2 other write ups on the timing belt swap.

so the problem is:

i purchase a dsm complete w/ engine and body not running and it doesnt have a timing belt on the car, the other owner was to lazy to finish so he sold it to me.

my question is, while doing the t-belt swap im also changing the h20 pump, and all of the seals for oil pump, and removing the balance shafts as well. and yes im replacing the tensioner pully, idler pulley and the auto tensioner aswell.

now since i didnt recieve the car (engine) w/ the t-belt on it, i didnt have the opportunity to correctly line up all the marks before removal. what im wondering is how should i go about lining up my crank/cam sprocket marks now? and since im removing the balance shafts, there is no need to line up the oil sprocket mark is there?

thanks,

Nick

It won't matter as long as the timing marks are lined up. The crankshaft rotates twice for every one rotation of the camshafts. So just line your marks up like they are supposed to. If it were me I'd remove the valve cover and try to compress the valves to make sure they're not bent. I'd hate to see you go through all that work to find out the tb broke and bent the valves. :thumb: I have no experience with removing the balance shafts so I'm not sure about lining up the oil sprocket.
