Redline Water Wetter? [Merged 5-9]

My roommate put some in his car about a week ago and he said that he didn't notice that his car was running any cooler. The best way to check it though would be if you had an aftermarket water temp gauge to see exactly what it is doing. My recommendation is to not waste your money unless you have the gauge and can give us results.

I use it here in AZ where temps get over 100 and verified by the logger the temps went down. I suggest it all the way.

Water wetter is not supposed to decrease temps. What it does do is coat the edges and nooks in the water coolings system making it flow tons better. Remember air and water are both fluids so the same thoughts on the intake piping apply to the water system. Now that the water flows better, you get better circulation and less hot spots within the block etc. This means that although your readings may have only gone down a few degrees at the sensor, elsewhere it may have made a tremendously bigger difference as those hot spots are no longer an issue.

Cool, that's what the guy said on the link I posted above.

Actually it did make it darker. I remember when changing my turbo and I drained the coolant is was darker. I haven't added more water wetter since then though I will be when I get the spoolinup radiator and new hoses.

Later,

Let us know how the spoolinup Radiator goes. I was thinking of getting one because my stock one is tore up some.

I figure I need to replace the hoses. So while I have no coolant it gives me an excuse to buy a new radiator. ;)

I know this thread is a bit old but has anyone tried just using water and water wetter with no coolant in their daily driver. I also Live in AZ and the temps can even reach 120 deg.??

You don't want to leave out coolant. It fights electrolytic corrosion, lubes and conditions the water pump seal, and prevents rust. Use 30% coolant (antifreeze), 70% water where it's nice and warm. And spend the extra $3 to use a couple of jugs of distilled water from the grocery store instead of hose water. You don't need chlorine (etc) in the radiator.

very old post but if you use lets say 50% water and 50% coolant and a bottle of water wetter wont that water eventually evaporate?

My coolant is at it's normal level and I just bought a bottle of water wetter. Is it safe to pour the whole bottle of water wetter in? Will my coolant system over-flow if I add the bottle or will it be fine?
Thanks in advance!

You'll be fine. Just open the radiator cap when the car is cold and pour the water wetter in. If the system gets to the top, just open the drain plug on the bottom driver side of the radiator for a couple seconds and let out enough water so you can add the rest of the water wetter.

just a couple of things;
First off, water wetter raises the antifreeze temp ability of your coolant mix. If you live in a area with a winter you'll be quite surprised when you check the temperature your antifreeze protects you to. The winter before we saw temps down to -46 degrees and when I checked, my antifreeze was only protecting down to 16 degrees!!! Thank god I had a heated garage! This was on a 50/50 mix that was only a season old and should have had no problems protecting my car. The only thing different was the water wetter. In the past I had a turbo car completely freeze up on me, pop the freeze plugs and literally break the turbo housing and crack the head! Since then I have been very proactive about seeing what temp my coolant protects to and regularly get my cooling system flushed. I wouldn't run water wetter in the wintertime... If you live somewhere where it never freezes, it wouldn't be a concern.
Secondly, I have a bunch of friend's that work over at King Motorsports. They primarily do JDM Honda and road racing. They were all running water wetter for a season. At the end of the season when they were tearing everything down to prep for the season, they found corrosion that had run out of control in the motors and a few of the heads even had blocked cooling passages!:talon:

What do you use in your 4g63 radiator/cooling system?

It's time to drain, flush & refill before summer gets here. I want to know if anyone uses the Royal Purple Purple Ice?
The WW is $9.99/12oz. & PI is $15.99/16oz.

I ran a mixture of water, coolant & water wetter for the last 3 years w/ no issues. No leaks & no adding of coolant. I can vouch for the WW as i noticed my gauge was lower than before i added it. Also ran this in my friends R1 & he noticed a difference in his temps as well.

I think royal purple is more of the additive that you just add, and water wetter is more or less your "coolant".
I tried water wetter and it works good. I tried Royal ice as adding it only and saw no diff, maybe I'll try that as my base of coolant.
Mostly I use this stuff that comes in a metal can, for trucks, supposed to reduce temps 40*. I use that, water wetter and water and coolant, no problems.

If Water Wetter works for you just stick with that. Remember, if its not broken....don't fix it.
For summer I usually run a 70/30 water/coolant and a bottle of water wetter. Runs fairly cool for having a half size radiator (honda civic)

Reviving from the dead...

I have never heard of such stories as blocking passages etc. from using WW.
There must have been other crap in there before he added the WW.
It doesnt create Corrosion. It might have knocked some deposits loose causing the issue. Was the radiator flushed before they ran the WW or added to old coolant? There are many reasons why there might have been deposits in the cooling system. Not my car so i dont know.

I do know i have ran it for 3 years no issues. I am going to flush the old and add new coolant, distilled water & Water Wetter or Purple Ice. I noticed my coolant is a much darker nasty color but i will repost after i drain it to let everyone know what comes out.
